Thanks for this video. Just wanted to comment that my cat had these symptoms and was diagnosed with diabetes. Even though he was skittish and neurotic, he didn’t mind the insulin shots at all. My vet surprisingly recommended feeding him canned Purina Fancy Feast, which has no carbs added but is one of the cheapest foods. He loved the fish flavors especially.
His brother developed kidney disease. He needed subcutaneous water injections, which also turned out to be really easy and cheap to do at home. He needed an expensive kidney diet kibble, which he loved. He wouldn’t eat the canned kidney diet though, but the vet said it actually was ok for him to eat some of his brother’s inexpensive Fancy Feast pate along with the pricey kibble.

My 16 year old male kitty was just diagnosed two weeks ago. He checked all your boxes and then some..(urinating outside the litter box..). We are giving him 2 insulin shots per day and have him on Purina special diet twice daily as well. I'm heartbroken but won't give up on him. He's been isolated because of the urination/defecation problem outside the box for now and he has the sensor on him so that we are tracking his levels daily. We've seen a little improvement only to skyrocket the next day. It's very sad to watch. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this disease. Footnote: we have two other cats (Aurora and Jasime, sisters of 7 years) and because they have a different diet we also had to invest in a microchip feeder. THAT thing is working like a charm. Girls can eat when they want and Bailey (when he is out of confinement) just wonders why he can't open the door to the dish. Many hugs to all kitty owners. 😻

My Previous Boy was about 12 when he was dx with diabetes. He was vomiting quite frequently and grooming more excessively that he had lost some patches of fur. I took him to the vet and he put him on prednisone which I didn’t feel like it was the right answer but who am I, I am not a veterinarian obviously. Then when he started sneezing daily and I noticed that it was bloody I was terrified. I noticed what I thought was coagulated blood on his nostril but it wasn’t coming off. So I booked an appointment with a different vet and a different clinic and she said that he has a tumour and looked in his mouth and said well I can almost certainly say it’s from a dental abscess his teeth need to all be removed. At this point he was 13. I had him since he was 5-6 weeks old and I was 9 years old and fed him cheese whiz sandwiches and anything he wanted so he got to 20 pounds easy (not proud of this) now she said he needs to be 15 pounds he’s a big cat but he’s obese and he’s a senior so we need to do blood work to see if he can undergo surgery even
So I’m very broke and on the tightest budget but this kind vet said we can work out monthly payments. She said his heart and kidneys are great but he has diabetes so I told her about the previous vet visits and the prednisone which she was not very happy about but she removed all of Dukes teeth and he got nightly insulin injections at 9:30pm from age 13 to age 23 when it was time to say goodbye (one of the worst days of my life). But I’m so grateful to that vet now retired because she let me give her 14 post dated cheques for $100 to pay for the surgery and blood work. That was 20 years ago so it doesn’t seem to be that way anymore
But point of the story
He was sooo good with his injections and would come hit you on the leg if you were more than 5 minutes late in giving him it.
My 19 year old right now I believe might have diabetes as he pees a lot and has lost so much muscle from his back legs but I can’t even afford to take him to get tested. When he went a year ago to the new vet she wanted to do $600 worth of tests and I live on disability so I could only pay for the $180 basic fee and go without food for myself for the week. I’ll never let him go without food. I had a man come into my life and take my entire life savings (inheritance) via theft and manipulation and left us with nothing. So I cry every day that I can’t even afford to take an Uber to the vet with him.
So please if you can afford it take your babies to the doctor. I got 23 wonderful years with my last baby and I pray to get at least that many with my 19 year old (I rescued him as a 5 week old) Sorry that was so long

Interesting that a lot of these also presented on my kitty that had renal failure but her symptoms showed up aggressively fast. 4 days after noticing her eating less, I took her to the vet. And 3 days after taking her to the vet for antibiotics, bloodwork showed she was already in stage 3 renal failure. We have to be super vigilant with these little guys 😔

One obvious, glaring problem is that cats shouldn't eat a carbohydrate rich diet. My cats eat almost zero carbohydrates. Cats do not need any carbohydrates in their diet, as they are obligate carnivores. If you meet them where they are at, they thrive. If you feed them grain, then they will suffer from urinary issues, like almost all of my childhood cats. Until I read by the National Research Council, I didn't know this. I feed my cats Dr. Anne pierson's recipe, and I have done so for going on three years now. They are soooo healthy. I think they might outlive me lol! This is definitely cheaper than buying wet food, after buying the grinder....

With colder weather coming soon can you talk about if cats can use heating pads? Can it be a heating pad for humans or does it need to be specifically for pets? Can they lay directly on it? Can they use heated blankets, etc? My cats are getting older and I can tell they want a warm spot but concerned if it is safe, will it give them heat stroke? Thanks

My 11 year old cat who also has kidney disease was diagnosed with diabetes 2 weeks ago. He has started on Senvelgo and it seems to be going well. The vet told us to come back in a month for a follow-up, we monitor his ketones with urine ketostix for the first 2 weeks.
Since he has kidney disease he has always been drinking and peeing a lot but a few days before we took him to the vet he had been spending even more time at the water bowl, his chest was sometimes wet. He also started peeing on the mat at our front door every day which he had never done before so that was strange. We had to temporarily put puppy pads on the mat. We have a temporary litterbox there now and he uses it, hope we can remove that soon. He is a small cat weighing at only 8 pounds but he had lost 1 pound since he was last weighed 2 months prior. He was also very anxious, roaming around meowing, waking us up at night. A blood test at the vet revealed his blood sugar was 3x higher than it should be.
What is your opinion on medications like Senvelgo? Our vet said his diet doesn't need to be changed but he's getting both wet and dry food now. Do you think taking out his dry food would help? He is on a renal diet (Royal canin).

Interesting video. This is exactly what my cat has been experiencing the last six months. He's been to the vet multiple times, all his testing is fine, but he has lost a pound. He seems happy and is still playful, he's 14. What else could it be?
