The recent pandemic had me wondering... are movie theaters going to survive? We've seen many industries struggle and the film industry is one of them. Whether movie theaters are are going to exist in 10 years or not, we'll go over that in this video.

In this video we will be taking about whether or not we think theaters will survive.

i like the analogy of you saying that just because food delivery services exist, restaurants won't shut down. but the more I think about it, the more I feel like this isn't a fair comparison since movie theatres don't make the movies, they just show them. whereas restaurants make the food, hence they still receive the profit.

the damn crap HBO max, Netflix are solely responsible for movie theaters shutting down. no matter what I'm not converting to Goddamn streaming. hell no

At damn near $15-$20 per ticket along with the outrageous prices for the food and candy....No, I am good not experiencing the "experience." More money in my pocket viewing at home.

Although watching a movie in theatres is not my favourite way, I do miss it being a hangout spot where you can talk about the movie after with your friends.

As for whether I think they’ll die, I don’t think they will anytime soon but I think the ticket sales these next 10 years will be much less than the previous 10 years. Just think that a handful of studios will stick with the streaming services.

I watch movies on Netflix and Prime as I want, but nothing compares to seeing a new movie on the big screen! You, Atleast I, always remember movies seen in the theaters! Streaming has a place, it’s basically the DVD days of old. Cinema first, then DVD, now streaming.

Besides Covid people like me are tired of going to theaters and having the experience ruined by rude people

Zoomers don't understand the "experience" aspect, there was also the experience of going to a video rental store I miss. Just going out, browsing the titles, etc that is just lost now days

It may not be dead yet, but I'd say it's on it's way.

As for myself, the last movies I watched in theater were Maverick and Elvis. The others were just I'm sorry to say, simply a badly made movie not worth wasting my time and money.

Going to a theater is expensive. And the movie company must realize that if they want our money, they just need to make good movie without politics and woke stuff. It's just as simple as that.

Of course people will not return if the restaurant suddenly mandately adds dark and rainbow colored sauce to their food. It's the same with the modern movie.

I don't think that theaters are dying, especially where I'm from. I'm from South Africa, and we don't have a lot of streaming services. We have Netflix and a local streaming service called Showmax, but it doesn't release a new or "straight from the cinema" movies. The only service that does that is Box Office, a rental service part of Dstv's (digital satellite television) catalog. We don't even have Disney+ or HBO max, (although we have HBO shows on Showmax) because they are not available in our country. My country can't afford to do streaming services because not everyone has access to good internet connection, so we still have satellite TV, and although it is pricey, there is still plenty of content we can access on it. And even if we had to those two streaming services, no one is going to pay extra if they have all they need on satellite. Gen Z and Millennials might opt for streaming, but that's all you get, and Dstv recently made an app so you can watch shows, sports, news and movies online, on any device, anytime, so Disney+, Netflix, HBO Max and Amazon Prime wouldn't stand a chance.

Another factor of why our theaters won't be completely shut down for good is that people really still enjoy going to the movies. Most people would rather go to the movies than watch it at home, regardless of prices. If you can get enough people to watch with you, then you are covered because people love that communal experience. Our movie theaters have been hit hard by the pandemic, and lost a lot of revenue, but they are still hanging in there and surviving. They have gotten so help from the government to still operate on selective days and are still the lifeblood of malls (yes, we still have malls, and those aren't also going away anytime soon 😂), so if theaters were to dissappear, a huge part of the mall would be missing. There would also be a huge outrage.

The only movie I got to watch last year was TENET, and although I didn't get to watch it at an IMAX cinema, but a subpar one, I'm still glad I got to see it the way it was supposed to be seen. 2 days after seeing it on the big screen, it came on Box Office and I rented it out and the experience was drastically different. I could understand and hear the dialogue better because of subtitles 😂, but there was one crucial thing that the cinema had that watching it at home didn't have, and I think that is how Nolan intended it to be: IMMERSION AND RETAINMENT! I could fully immerse myself in the movie and retain and focus on the film when im in the cinema. Versus when I'm at home, I'll watch it, then check my phone, then go to the kitchen and grab a snack, then later I want cake, etc., and I'd never focus on the film and just enjoy it.

I'm going to watch Dune at an IMAX cinema, and even though it may cost me more to drive 50km and R300 (probably $20 to $30) but it would be all worth it. I watched Avengers: Endgame at an IMAX cinema and it was the best movie experiences of my life, and I want to experience that with Dune.

Sorry if this ended up being an essay, but I do agree with you that theaters aren't dead, especially where I'm from.

This is weird watching in the summer of 2022 when movie theatre attendance has bounced back in North America with Top Gun maverick being likely one of the biggest films of all time and streaming seemingly collapsing onto itself with Netflix losing users. Although Disney+ should have totally released Turning Red and Chip and Dale recuse rangers into theatre’s.

I love going to movie theaters and love my DVDs and even VHS tapes. With DVDs I can say I OWN whatever SERIES, movie, etc... Netflix and streaming services can remove stuff anytime. And there's nothing like the theater experience, getting your snakes, sharing emotions with total strangers who you have nothing in common with other that the movie you're watching.

Some one predicted restaurants would be a obsolete one day, it'll all be done by phone apps, pizza hut app, Burger King app, etc you'll order and pick the food up, but the idea of actually going into a building, sitting down and eating won't be a thing. I honestly hate a future like that!! Sometimes it's nice to out the iphone down and leave the freaking house. I look forward every week to a night out at the movies, would hate if that is gone

They essentially have to redefine the concept of second-run theater chains. This involves utilizing miniature electromagnetic pulses to deactivate smartphones before they can be used for taking pictures or videos of others and the movie screen. Additionally, employing artificial intelligence can automate or aid in various tasks, such as having AI assist in security camera systems to promptly identify breaches of conduct.

With such a vast variety of films, theaters can show older films to draw a audience and make cash to survive .

Heaven and earth rejoice that the Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co. is STILL playing classic movies on one big screen in one theater with the latest release in another!

Cinemas have been dying for a long time and even if there is a temporary bounceback (I don't see one yet), in the long term, it's still going to be dead apart from a few that live on as curiosities. The number of cinemas per town have been dwindling for decades now.

I wish they bring back drive through cinimas. Other than that make tickets cheaper or have rewards membership to watch a free movie or discounted movie showing based on your visits. Maybe offer kids in for free or cheap to help parents take to kids out.
