@roofingwichitaks owner Tyler Sims explains the circumstances in which homeowner's insurance providers with serving customers with code coverage must pay for full roof replacement.

Although this video applies to insurance from all providers in the location it was captured, State Farm insurance is notorious for approving ineffective repairs while denying the proper full roof replacement that is needed to maintain the integrity and value of the subject building.

The code in Wichita, Kansas does not allow for repairs to roofs with slat decking.

In order to legally and ethically install shingles on this roof, one must remove the slat decking, that is in violation of code, and replace it with code-approved OSB sheathing.

Because of the code issue, the roof cannot be repaired without replacing all of the slat decking with the proper sheathing. Therefore, the insurance policy that includes code coverage must pay for the full roof replacement.

Thanks for the insight. I’ve tried to get State Farm to pay for a redeck and they wouldn’t pay for it even though many of the spaces were larger than what IRC allows. It’s insane how adjusters can just make bogus calls on what does or doesn’t need to be done by the IRC. Eventually I got it bought it just took a few months.

They will just start rewriting the policy or stop offering coverage in these areas.
