I'm not sure. He presents likeable. However he did emphasise how extraordinary and unusual the opportunity was, a sentiment echoed even at the time of the declaration. It was a very unusual, unexpected, bold, dangerous foreign policy move, and I'm not convinced that all that was necessary for its existence was the power of persuasion. Also, using Dolly and creating an almost romantic story seems quite manipulative. Yes, hide behind the skirts. I doubt Dolly, in a quest too fulfil a deathbed wish, was such a driving force. I don't know about you, but i doubt governments make bold foreign policy moves because someone tugged their heart strings. Sentimentality is not usually their modus operandi
