End Water Crisis in Canada | Dr. Safiyyah Ally
Показать описание
Canada is a water-rich country. But for First Nations on reserves, clean water is a privilege. Poor funding and inattention affect their water systems. There are frequent water shortages. Contaminated water leads to illness and disease. And having to worry, about buying, fetching and cleaning water is a burden on caregivers and those who are poor. Many communities rely on household containers or private wells and use outhouses or slop pails. Without clean water, living standards plummet. Prime Minister Justin #Trudeau promised to solve part of the problem by ending long-term water advisories by March 2021. But now #COVID has delayed his plan. Recently, residents of the Neskantaga First Nation, already under a water advisory for 25 years, were forced to evacuate because the water in their reservoir was contaminated. Dr. Safiyyah Ally says #Canadian Muslims should be concerned. Prophet Muhammad advised us to love for others what we love for ourselves. And we are called to challenge injustice and oppression wherever we see it. She urges people to learn about the water crisis in First Nations communities and hold elected members of Parliament to account for this broken promise.
