You have probably heard the terms 32-bit and 64-bit. You may have heard of 16-bits in relation to retro gaming systems. But what do all these bits and bytes mean? Please let me explain!

I think this channel is really great.
Could you please explain the CAN bus!
Keep up the good work

You got me completely lost around the sixth minute, but I watched completely pretending that I understood it...😂😂😂

. I'm trying to figure out what bits do in the context of microprocessors. This is my understanding:

1) You have a finite range of values you can compute in one hit using a microprocessor based on its bits.

2) Binary has to be inputted into a device. A microprocessor will dictate how many bits can be inputted at one time. For example, 8 bits give you a range of 256 values (0-255) that you can use to input or "encode" data.

3) That's great because because I can use 8 bits to represent all the characters I want to type into this comment: a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and some symbols like @#$%.

4) If the microprocessor could process 16-bits at a time, that would give me a greater range of values that I can use to input a greater complexity of information.

5) Said application then has to process and then "decode" this information based on the instructions that the programmer wanted the application to perform (code).

Ergo, (and this where I'm not clear) a 16-bit console can handle a greater complexity of information. Now... what dictates the speed at which 16 bits are processed? Is it possible for an 8-bit console to be superior to a 16-bit processor if it's able to encode information faster than a 16 bit processor? Is this clock speed?

Thanks Gary for a very easy to understand video. I started off with a ZX Spectrum 48K back in the day before moving on to a Commodore Amiga A500 so I totally understand the relevance of 8 bit and 16 bit 👍

Why do we have to go to 128 bit? Can't we go to 65 bit?

Nice video Gary well explained. A couple of other subjects that would be great to explain are the different versions of windows and why some versions are for business and other not i.e. things like windows server and why Microsoft didn't just have one version that would cover all. I know the answer but most people don't so it would a fun subject matter sir!

Good afternoon professor! Great video! Speaking of bits & bytes.... I wondered mentally into internet speeds... I'm always confused about them Mbs and MBs... why are they there? Can't we stick to just using one? What's the difference?

Why is encryption alone using
128 bit 256 bit SSL etc... to ensure consumer grade hardware can’t possibly handle the numbers?
