Japan: Wears face masks when sick to prevent the spread of germs.

Also Japan: Openly coughs into the air on public transportation.

Kay. Sounds legit...

5:26 – "DON'T show your chest, shoulders or arms... it's considered kinda sexual..."

4:55 – "SHOW legs and thighs..."

Chin stroking ensues.

Japanese people: own 20 different shoes for different rooms, don't put your bags on the table it's unsanitary, wear eyepatches when mosquito bites you in the eye and don't blow your nose in public it's DisGusTAnG

Also Japanese people:
**cough at each other's faces**

My boyfriend accepted kimchi from his coworker even though he hates it. He was afraid to upset him. It's still sitting in the fridge.

One of my wife's friends is Japanese. She goes "home" once a year. I've sent home-made beef jerky (labeled and vacuum sealed) for her parents. Beef, in many places in japan is a rarity, so beef jerky is almost a delicacy. I've never met them, but somewhere in Kyushu there's an older couple who love my beef Jerky.

I also just learned when standing on the train you have to face the people sitting. I thought it was weird to stand over people facing them. But they find it rude when your back is to them.

I think teachers should be allowed to make small touches on students. The power and unspoken language of touch can have a major impact on the student.

There is a major one I think you missed: DON'T tip!!!! Like, just don't. Always accept all of your change back and just get out of wherever you are.

I just want to point this one other thing out, if you're traveling, you certainly can use your credit card. I'm traveling with a Visa and when around the city, you can always get through the day with your credit card. It has never appeared as out of the ordinary to anyone either. It's true that most people pay with cash, but I haven't gotten so much as a funny look when asking: "Caado wa ii desu ka?" (= Is it okay to pay with my card?). Most stores offering credit card payment will have the cards they're accepting displayed around the entrance, so you'll know upon entering that your card will be accepted. I've used my credit card everywhere from convenience stores to restaurants and also electronic stores. Be aware that in the countryside or in very small stores this is different, of course. So, when you plan a trip to a small village, out something, be sure to bring cash. You also want to remember that post offices and banks will close either at 4pm or 5pm and it might be difficult to get cash after that. They also remain closed for holidays. There are convenience stores that have ATMs, like 7Eleven, but there's no telling if they'll accept your card when it's foreign.
