Показать описание
March 11, 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake that devastated the Tohoku region. The 9.0 magnitude earthquake erupted on March 11, 2011 at 2:46pm JST (March 10 at 7:46pm HST) and was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan. At 7:46pm HST, please observea moment of silence in remembrance of the hundreds of thousands of people who were affected by the tragedy.
Longtime JASH member Raymond Tabata has been volunteering in the Tohoku region since the disaster. Through his many regular trips to the affected prefectures, he has watched individuals, families, and communities persevere and rebuild over the past ten years. This year, as he cannot join them in Tohoku for the anniversary, Mr. Tabata has graciously selected a series of photographs taken over his many volunteer trips that showcase the resiliency of the Tohoku communities. This series is created especially for the Japan-America Society of Hawaii. Set to the music of Hana wa Saku (by Shunji Iwai and Yoko Kanno), JASH is honored to present Mr. Tabata’s “In Observance of the 10th Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.”
