BACH MARCELLO Adagio BWV 974 by concert pianist Stéphanie Elbaz

Alessandro Marcello (1673-1747) was a Venetian nobleman who excelled in various areas, including poetry, philosophy, mathematics and, perhaps most notably, music. His compositional output includes a dozen each of chamber cantatas, violin sonatas, and concertos, as well as several arias and canzonets. One of his most distinguished compositions is the concerto in D minor for oboe, strings and basso continuo, which was first published around 1707 and subsequently transcribed by Jean-Sebastian Bach for harpsichord (as BWV 974). I’m delighted to perform the famous second mouvement (Adagio) of this transcription in a magnificent castle in consonance with Marcello’s culture and living environment.

D’emblée le décor, fastueux. Puis, la note, les accords répétés. En surimpression, vos mains, magnifiques. Ces mains qui servent à mettre au monde un bébé puis, plus tard, à fermer les yeux de celui qui n’est plus.
Bien sûr - hélas !! - elles peuvent tuer. Heureusement elles servent aussi à construire, à caresser et à étreindre. Surtout, elles sont l’outil indispensable pour que l’œuvre d’un compositeur sorte du néant et offre aux Hommes, gratuitement, la plus fascinante des multiples facettes de la Beauté : la Musique.
Cette musique toujours recommencée, jamais la même, car toujours éthérée, volatile, fuyante, fugace et dont la seule prison est le cœur de ceux qui la révèrent.

Comme toujours, vous nous offrez quelques minutes de pure beauté donc de bonheur.
Comme vous la vivez, cette musique !! D’ailleurs, le metteur en scène l’a très bien compris en captant ce regard vers le ciel (lorsque commence la deuxième minute), ce pincement des lèvres, ébauche d’un sourire fugace (exactement à 2:21).
Peut-il en être autrement puisque cette musique sublime venue du Ciel est plus qu’un chant désespéré, c’est une prière, une offrande.

Une fois encore, le lieu est un régal pour les yeux. Ce château somptueux, écrin fabuleux pour le plus aristocratique des Arts ne pouvait accueillir qu’une éblouissante artiste, toujours follement élégante et raffinée. Elle a pour nom Stéphanie Elbaz.
