To all you nurses out there, hat’s off to you.

Worked midnights for 10 years. She’s absolutely right up until the diaper part. Nursing used to be enjoyable, not so much later on. I thank God on my knees that I quit before Covid hit. When I heard the way hospital staff were treated and brainwashed, I gave my license back to the state. Best move I ever made.

Nursing is its own animal. Bless them all.

Yeah, I had a hospital pull this on me (I already had plenty of uniforms and scrubs). Our union did nothing, stating the hospital didn’t recognize them. After 3 hospitals in a row with this ridiculousness, and the state having decided nurses were exempt from mandatory breaks and OT being voluntary only, I got a CDL and became an over-the-road trucker. Better hours, better pay, way more respect. I guess truckers were needed more than nurses? 😂

I was a RN in various facilities for nearly 50 years, and Veronica hits the nail on the head here. Much of this began occurring after insurance-managed care came in, however. In my first job in ICU, before managed care, the hospital provided scrubs. We had orderlies, nursing assistants, ward secretaries, and monitor technicians as well. Now, many of those jobs are no more, and RNs are expected to do all those tasks. I was always appalled that hospital staffing was based on numbers of patients also -- and acuity had nothing to do with it. But even the numbers-based staffing is appalling now that hospitals are mostly for-profit facilities. Since managed care came in, I've never known a time or a place where we worked with adequate staff. I had the absolute luck to retire just before Covid hit, but my colleagues who worked during that time said it only became worse. Thanks, Veronica, for highlighted what nursing staff have to deal with always.

My friend was a nurse for many years then he quit because of all the BS and became an electrician. He was tired of the disrespect from the doctors from the patients and from the hospital administration. He worked in California.

The healthcare field is very different than office life. Very much so indeed!

Oh HELL no. I would not be working there. Wearing a diaper? No lunch, no bathroom, no guarantee of getting relief after 12 hours, AND buying my own clothes?

Ive been in the hospital a few times this year unfortunately. Ever nurse i had was so nice. Wven when im sick i refuse to be rude. Its not others faults i feel bad. I had a male nurse come in and he brought all these meds i needed to take so we chatted while he hooked me up. He asked me if there was anything he needed to know. I said im easy to please just i know i can have the meds fir pain and nausea every 4 hours so if i can have that we are great, i wouldnt mind ice to when u bring the meds. Guy legit set his timer on his phone and right before the 4 hr mark he walked in with everything. Meds, ice, and even brought me a sprite as well as a popcicle bc he noticed i was on a liquid diet. He said i know u have got to be hungry after what 2 days in here and 2-3 days at home before u came without eating. He was amazing!! Then a little over a month later i was back in and he walked into the room. He goes hey i remember you! Ino exactly what you need bc u told me last time and i never forget my sweetest patients. So he gave me my meds said ill be right back. He came in with 2 popcicles, sprite, and a huge cup of ice. He snuck me a couple cracker packets since it was said i could have those at lunch or dinner. Im not a big fan of going to the hospital but if i do and i get him and the other 3 ladies im happy to have the 4 of them. They make the stay bearable between the uncomfortable bed, boring atmosphere of cable, and my horrible symptoms. I get Veronica 100%, its a thankless job from most people but im happy to see nurses who care. Especially when they come visit my room just to talk even dragging the blood pressure cuff just so they have a reason even though they took it like not even an hour ago. They come In and ill crack jokes. Theyll do it about an hour before meds are due bc they know the pain is already coming back so they do it to distract me from it. Cant give it early has to be at least 4 hours

Honey I’ve been working nights for over 15 years; it’s been so long I actually stopped counting! Nevertheless, you can best believe I’m going to get my breaks in, all night long! One thing I don’t do is sleep. However, I do go in the meditation room, climb in the massage chair, and pray for my Gods strength to make it through the rest of my shift! We have to take care of ourselves, because trust me when I tell you; no one cares about you, your well being, and your health! I up for retirement this year, I will be coming out in November 2025, and I will gracefully bow out!

I am only speaking as a caring daughter to an elderly mother in a physical therapy ward. She had a stroke last month. I visit her, and I was appalled that she didn’t have even a denture cup, toothbrush, comb, or denture, cream, or even toothpaste. I brought all of these things from home. I made sure when I visit her she was in a clean nightgown, I made sure I brushed your dentures and she brushed your teeth. I combed her hair and made sure she was bathed, I even helped her eat Her protein They gave her for dinner. If you have someone in a nursing home or a physical therapy facility, make sure they are getting the correct care.😊😮
