In this video , we are discussing Principle, Procedure and Result interpretation of ZN staining (Ziehl Neelsen staining) adn Kinyoun staining method used for Mycobacterium species i.e., Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae.
Acid fastness is resistance to decolorization by acids which is major property shown by Mycobacterium specie and other cells.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis have Mycolic acid in their cell wall, that don't allow normal stain used in microbiology to stain the cell. in order to stain these cells, acid fast staining techniques are developed that includes ZN staining and Kinyoun staining.
