Americas Got Talent Magician Makes Houdini Escape On TV From Ropes And Chair

Day 4 of the #30DayEscapeChallenge.

Hey Folks!!

You ever wonder what tight rope smells like around your neck and body holding you to a chair in a hot TV studio? Let me tell ya.........

I was booked to appear in Ft Wayne, Indiana, and also as part of the gig, I was booked on the show Night Shift starring Kevin Ferguson. Kevin, the host who was really nice and a comedian as well said Mike (because that's my name lol) he said Mike what tricks do you want to do? I said I could do Needles at the desk. Needles is the East Indian Needle Mystery which took me 13 years to learn. I had seen a pic of a magician in Vaudeville who had an accident and he was X-rayed showing lots of needles in all directions stabbed and lodged in his throat. I loved that trick, in fact, I love it now, and almost wherever I go people say are you gonna do that Needle trick again? we saw it before and it scared the sh*t out of us.

Kevin said yeah that would rock but, are you up to a challenge? well, Challenge is my middle name (not legally, it's Maurice lol) so I said yeah, what? He goes I have a couple of guys that are interested in your worldwide $1,000.00 challenge to tie you up with rope and if you can't get out you pay them the 100k. I said OK, hey I love doing rope escapes and have been doing them since I was a little kid when my brother and I would always tie each other up. I could always get out, Peter, my brother not so much,,, we still feed him twice a day though LOL.

Kevin introduced the 2 guys and then I took over with my standard speech about tying me up any way you like and then for the folks in the crowd to time them so I could try to get out and even if possible in less time than it took them to tie me, easy, right? oops...

These guys came practiced. Bam, I'm in the chair, ropes are going around me in every direction, first, you lose feeling in your arm, then all of a sudden you cant feel either hand, then the tightness gets you quick around your neck. Breathing gets a bit tough but what's worse is that as you move to get a breath of air you feel the rope doing you like a python squeezing its prey to death, man, it gets tight, then if you get real quiet you can smell the rope and even quieter still you start to feel some of the little blood vessels in the whites of your eyes start to pop. You have to stay awake, you have to no matter what.

That's when I start vibrating, my body shaking, thrashing, twisting, falling over in the chair not even knowing I'm doing it, just birthing my way out of the ropes, the birth of butterfly squeezing out of the cocoon. Escape!

Standing up listening to the applause and smiling back at the folks, oh man was it a hot time in Ft Wayne...
