Somehow it's so well put together it makes me feel like the song is reminiscing personal intimate events about the singers wife are having and how you miss those times.

The random lyrics like "General chicken with rice": It's acknowledging the simple times in past life. Maybe that was their guilty pleasure meal to order general chicken with rice. Similarly, with McDonalds and Ronald McDonald, those are the random, most undressed but nostalgiac meals they shared in this relationship. The 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, an old car. That was the car that he or she drove in the early days during the relationship, but now its long gone.

I also lost my morals back in Vietnam. Me and my Infantry just deployed into Vietnam, I was new to the war because I just signed up after I got my highschool diploma. My friend, Benjamin Buford, him and I met on the bus whilst awaiting to arrive to our training site. We called him Bubba, it was his nickname given to him by his mom. Bubba knew everything about shrimps. He knew how to catch them and cook them, he said that after the war he was going to become a shrimp boat captain and that I will be his first mate. He gladly excepted. Anyways back to when we deployed into Vietnam. Bubba and I met our lieutenant, Lieutenant Dan. He didn't want us to salute him because there were snipers all around pointed at him. He told us to wash up and get ready. Few days later we are camping out in the middle of the forest. Im writing letters to Jenny, she's the love of my life, we met back in elementary she hated her father for some reason because he was all touchy. We wake up in the morning and we are in the forest. We get ambushed by this guy named Charlie, we were always looking for him. Bombs start coming in on us and we are being shot down left and right. I get everyone out including lieutenant Dan. He didn't want to live because his ancestors died in every major war. I looked around and I didn't see Bubba, I searched and searched and I couldn't find him. I saw him, he had a leaf over him, I pulled it off and saw him bleeding. It didn't look good. I picked him up and ran for my life and his life, bombs were raining down on us. I set him down and he passed in my arms. At that point on I knew that I would have to fulfill Bubba destiny and become a shrimp boat captain. I would name it Bubba Gump and give 50% of the proceeds to Bubbas family.
