We Bought a Zoo (2011) - 'Sinking Friendships' / Memories scene

Cameron Crowe is an expert at filling his films with great songs, but for this crowd-pleaser he also enlisted the help of Icelandic musician Jónsi (of Sigur Rós fame), who contributed some twinkly original score and some of his songs, for extra tear-jerking effect. This is one scene where the music takes centre stage, as the main character remembers his wife.

Starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Stéphanie Szostak, Angus Macfadyen and Elle Fanning. Written and directed by Cameron Crowe. Music by Cliff Eidelman and Jónsi.

Jónsi did such a good job when portraying memories and good past times with a song, he made such a masterpiece.

..the pain in the heart, the tears in the eyes ...then comes a kind of happiness and finally smile on the face. The past, present and the future all in one shot ❤

A little late to the party here but just saw this movie last night and this has to be one of if not the most emotional gut-wrenching sad but also feel good scenes of a movie that sticks with you that I've ever seen. Sums up every emotion of grief and love and happiness all within 2 minutes.

He may have not wanted to do it at first but what Benjamin realized in this scene is that looking at the photos of his wife was what he needed, because although he cried he needed to, he spent so long running from that grief when he should’ve let it happen, crying over the loss of a loved one will happen and it helps you truly move on in life, because the crying helps you officially turn those sorrowful memories into bittersweet memories, memories to cry but also smile about

Everytime I'm upset at my wife or kids I watch this scene and it brings it all into perspective.
