In this video my mom GM Pia Cramling and my dad Juan Manuel Bellon Lopez played out the exact same position to show people the difference between how grandmasters think in chess depending on their style. The position was from a Magnus Carlsen game. Hope you enjoy :)

Pia is so harmonious and calm, taking very little risk and punishing bad moves from the opponent. Juan is very chaotic and take risks with almost every move he makes. Pia won, Juan drew beautifully.

It’s stereotypical, but I love how their chess styles line up with their nationalities. Sweden: “maybe we should do this, maybe we should do that, consider what they will think.” Spain: “¡ATTACK!”

Mum plays with cool and calm calculated momentum, Dad plays like he is sword fighting with parry and riposte. I can see why Anna got excited with Dad playing, he was taking risks to expose the opponent.

Anna has dad's character and chess play and not at all like mom. Mom is a very strong player with so so much calmness. She is not at all impulsive which is is the reason for her strong chess moves.

I love that your dad strikes me similarly to other great players as just awesome players that think in ways I can't even imagine. But Pia like, actually blows my mind. Her thought process is amazing, and I hold her in very high regard.

I wish the engine had played the same lines against them, it would have been interesting to see the difference in how they navigate the same position.They played the same first 2 moves and it was the engine that deviated
