PINK FLOYD | Animals 2018 Remix Review | Is it worth your money?

Pink Floyd's 2018 Remix of Animals has taken four years to get finally released after squabbles from the band, particularly between Roger Waters and David Gilmour around the inclusion of linear notes.

Indie miners looks at both the new stereo and surround versions of the new remix and tries to get to the bottom of what all the fuss is about.

It’s a great re-mix. The original vinyl is murky, dark and gloomy - exactly in keeping with the London at that time. Both are equally great - the remix is worth listening to.

The 5.1 and 2018 stereo mixes are far superior to the original imho. Not even a close contest. Now can we FINALLY have a 'The Wall' in 5.1 Roger?

Even the stereo remix (being from the original multi-track tapes) does away with the shortcomings they had at the time with the noise reduction encode/decode (inherent in all previous releases). Reverbs are updated – sometimes mix elements are drier, sometimes wetter.
Plus the drums are now panned audience P.O.V. which is arguably, subjectively, "correct" and it's likely that Nick Mason had a say in that.
This release was largely delayed to avoid clashing with the remix release of A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

Definitely worth it. Its just different, not better. Original release and mix is awesome, its a bit pushed back with more overall reverb. New mix is punchy and up front. Each are worth listening to and the new one won't replace the old one. Its a remix, not a remaster, its bound to be different. Some remixes are subtle some are drastic.

I think you will find Gilmour also played most the bass on this album mate.

Is it worth it? For less than 30 Euros for the stand-alone bluray, this must be one of the best value for money 5.1 mixes ever! And I have been collecting them for some 15 years now. There are many rip-off 5.1 publications out there - this is not one of them. This is the opposite. In addition to mix, the sound itself is superior to any earlier mix or mastering. My first Animals was vinyl, in early 80's, so I do get the nostalgy. But when it comes to sound, mix and soundstage, there's no substitute for high-quality 5.1.

My favorite Floyd album and I have the blu ray and single album so far, ordered the
limited edition single version, Extended Remix version and the sacd.
The vinyl and blu ray sound amazing.

I just downloaded the free version off of Amazon, and it was amazing! So…the new CD versions must be even better.

Great remix... although the original (I got mine in 1983) sounds much darker and more introverted. Gilmours funky bassplaying on Pigs (Three Different Ones) is out of this world (as is, offcourse, his guitarplaying!). I also like the remixes of Meddle and Obscured by Clouds a lot.... carry on!

I just listen on Apple Music and the stereo mix is fantastic. I find it to be more musical like you say. But I don't think it is angrier.

Some sections are much more dry. Like you're in the studio with them, on this side of the gobo.

Definitely worth it! Even more so because I got a factory goof and got no booklet but TWO CD's! I'll give one of them away to a friend, or may make one my "car" CD. The booklet would be nice to have, but I'll live without it! 👍😊

"Pigs" is David playing bass, not Roger. Waters only plays bass on "Dogs".

BTW, much of the bass playing on this album was by David Gilmour, particularly on Pigs - Three Different Ones.

One of my favourite PF albums (along with Wish You Were Here) so it's hard not to want to grab the 5.1 mix ASAP. I'd happily pay the $'s for the Deluxe if it also includes some extras like studio outtakes, alternate takes etc. instead of the vinyl.

8/10. 10 is perfection and therefore impossible. So where is the missing 1? The Talkbox. I was hoping for more emphasis on this section. Hey ho, never mind. God willing, I will get another 45 years to absorb this into every pore of my ears.
