My Honest Vivobarefoot Motus Flex Review - Worth It?

Are the new Vivobarefoot Motus Flex the ultimate barefoot training shoe? In this review, I put them to the test to find out if they live up to the high expectations (and high price tag).
Vivobarefoot markets the Motus Flex primarily towards the calisthenics crowd, but I was surprised to discover how comfortable they are for all-day wear, not just for workouts. The innovative sole design is a real standout feature.
But there are a few important things to consider before pulling the trigger on these £165 / $190 shoes. I'll break down the pros, the cons, and some key tips to keep in mind if you decide to buy a pair.
Is the steep price justified? How's the sizing and fit? What about long-term durability? I cover all this and more in the video, so you can make an informed decision and avoid buyer's remorse.

I’m actually super excited you mentioned the lack of grip on the insole! I recently made a product called a grip insole cover, exactly for that purpose. It’s essentially a thin piece of grippy material that’s originally used as a top cover for custom orthotics, with an adhesive backing to it. The cover is a one size fits all so you stick it to your insole then cut off the edges leaving you with a grippier insole.

I originally made them for football boots but they’re great for court sports, hiking, other field sports etc. I also have a pair in my Primus lites.

I don’t have the retail packaging designed yet but I have about 25 pairs available if you’re interested in trying them out.

Great review. Thank you for this. I found the sizing for vivo interesting. Having been on the vivo barefoot thing for a long time I find that going either your actual shoe size or even a half size lower works best for me 👌🏽

I have a pair of these, the space dye. They’re the best shoes out of the other vivobarefoot I’ve own and I’ve had 3 of them in the past. I took out my insoles and in my opinion it definitely feel more natural and barefooted 😊

Thank you for the critique. I am still debating if this is an option for me. The brand was recommended for its zero heel-to-toe drop and issues involving plantar fasciitis. I am looking for shoe for Les Mills workouts, more specifically Bodycombat and other aerobic type activities. You made excellent points in how this shoe could aid in overall foot position, and keeping mind of foot placement. An adjustment from the typical "padded" type cross-training shoe. I appreciate the insight.

I own the strength and really like them for gym wear. I’ve tried the flex in store and loved the fit. They just don’t seem durable. Prob fine if I only use them in the gym - but I already have the strength for that. I’d love to have them for running outdoors.

These run a full size bigger. I wish someone mentioned this before I purchased. I’m going to return the size 43 and purchase a 42.

So you found 11, 5 to be a better fit. I heard the same from other with the Flex, but i guess it depends on the width of your foot. Would you consider your foot wide or medium? I size up because i have 2E wide feet. I mostly wear fivefingers in the gym because very few shoes have a snug fit on me.

Thx just don’t forget to breathe 🤓.
Good that you mentioned the sizing as I was wondering about that. I could imagine that you would wear this more like a sock and not size it with the normal toe space to allow toe travel. Also because you have the extra movement for the split sole . Think you are right that the sizing is tricky overall and can depend on the layers of material and the flex of the sole. Making me wonder if the size is based on the sole alone.

I definitely have had the same issue with sizing which caused me to return several shoes in the past. if you live in the US, you can return the shoes for free. But if you live in a place like Singapore, you have to pay a hefty sum to return the shoe so I stopped taking the risk of buying vivobarefoot shoes online when I was living in Singapore. But now that I’m living in the US, I can buy multiple pairs and see which size fits correctly, but I agree that this is something they really should fix because it would be nice to know that all US size 12 fit the same.

So far the only size 12 that I would describe as an accurate size 12 are from the Vivo Primus Lite Knit model.

Do you prefer the motus strength or flex more?

To be fair, they are metcon priced because there's always a 20% off coupon out there for vivo

They look like Nike Aqua Sox! If you get the Insoles. Get some double-sided tape on the bottom of it, as they can slip up towards the heel.

Thank you for this video. I purchased the Primus Lite 3.5 at size 11.0 US (after first buying 12.5 US and 12.0 US). Vivo's shoe is great, but the fit guide isn't. I called the company and was told that the cut for the Motus Flex is completely different (Vivo is very inconsistent). so I'm deciding if I should try the 12.0 US, without buying 2 pairs of shoes just to return one.
