The Bee Gees ~ You Should Be Dancing 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

When it came time to record a follow up to the hit LP "Main Course" the Bee Gees found that the key to their new success, producer Arif Mardin who produced "Jive Talkin'" was no longer available to them. RSO Records had a distribution deal with Atlantic Records of which Mardin was a house producer. When that deal ended, RSO switched labels to Polydor which left the Bee Gees with out Mardin who could not work with artists on other labels. The panicked brothers approached super producer Richard Perry, but found they were at cross purposes with him and abandoned the project. They then realized that the best course of action would be to recreate the atmosphere of "Main Course", so they went back and recruited sound engineers Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson who helped to create the new sound for that album. The first single released from "Children Of The World" was "You Should Be Dancing" which hit the chart at #87 for the week of July 3, 1976, then raced to #1 nine weeks later. Another single from the album, "Love So Right" peaked at #3, but the brothers were just getting started. Their next project was a live album, and then they were asked to write and record some disco songs for a little movie starring "Welcome Back, Kotter" actor John Travolta that would help them and their label RSO make chart and record history.

Excellent remix! I love how it begins with that bass guitar.... superb! Then in last third, a combinaton of the bass and funky guitar playing with the trumpets too. I can never understand why good classic disco gets such bad press, its such a happy uplifting genre that just gets your foot tapping.... and then you just want to go and tear up the floor!! Oh yeah!! Great work!

I was 19 and working at a radio station in San Diego when "Saturday Night Fever" came out. The music was released first, and the rep for the label asked us to put the Bee Gees songs on our playlist, assuring us that the movie and soundtrack would be huge hits. He was absolutely right.

So smart to bring the bass upfront, balls out. The bass lines and riffs are tremendous. Exciting!

Love it. You know when I hear this bassline in the radio release, I think to myself, how awesome it would be to hear this bassline exposed more and looped out more….and you did it! Thank you!

Again an amazing remix of THE DEFINITIVE SONG of the disco era. For me, it is a song I listen to whenever I need to recharge myself. Every year, 4th September (the day when it became US No1) is a day when I pay homage to the brothers.

Cant get enough of your musical genius.
