Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell held a news conference Wednesday following the U.S. central bank’s decision to raise interest rates by three-quarters of a percentage point, the sharpest hike since 1994. Powell acknowledged Wednesday's interest rate hike was "an unusually large one," but said the increase was necessary to tamp down inflation. "The labor market is extremely tight, and inflation is much too high," he said.
