When driving a manual car do I change down gear when stopping? #shorts. When driving a manual car and you need to stop or slow down, as you slow or you're braking to stop do you need to change gear down one by one or can you stop and then change gear is something many learner drivers get confused on.

You do not change down one by one. You stop fully first then you change gear to whatever gear you need.

I was taught to go from 4 >>>3>>>2 then Stop and change to 1 for moving off.
I'm not sure it makes sense, personally, I think we should go from 4 direct to 2 then stop and change to 1.

You gear down to slow the car so it takes less stress on the breakers.
