🇺🇸 🇭🇺 4K Tour of Budapest With a Wandering American || Part 1 'The Buda Side'

Sziastok mindenkinek! Apologies for my absence from YouTube recently. I was hard at work last month creating new video content, but I couldn't share it until I had finished presenting some of my projects. And here is the first one! A virtual tour of Budapest for the international students of Aquincum Institute of Technology. Due to Corona Virus the couldn't come to Hungary this year :( But I was told a Walk with Willie was the next best thing.

This episode is a bit lighter on the history than usual, but I think its a really fun little view of the Buda side of our city. Obviously there is a ton missing, I focused mostly on the Castle District and beside the Danube. Anyway, enjoy....

Hi Willie, Like your videos, i'm a native hungarian, was born there, we left when I was 10 yrs old 1956. It was bad, the revolution. I live in southern Utah, God's country. Been back to Budapest several times, can't get enough of it. Love the hungarian language. It's hard but beautiful. Thanks for the wonderful videos and your positive attitude. I miss not being able to travel jet. Hope things get back to normal soon. I miss the great food there. Take care and keep up the good work. God's speed!!!

Man! You make me homesick! I grew up there but I've been in Toronto for 34 years. I have to say your Hungarian pronunciation is impressive! I like the pork sangweej- beer- palinka combo! If I may suggest....palinka as a chaser. Also, if you really want to Hungarianize, how's this for your youtube channel name: Valk on the Vild side Vith Villie. 5:25 that building is actually where Kossuth was imprisoned for exploiting a sort of legal loophole in the censorship law!

Openly criticizing the government was _very_ illegal at that time, but Kossuth figured if he just wrote about his liberal/reformistic views in the form of private letters that he printed out in dozens of copies and sent to his aquaintances (the letters were also presented as "Reports from the County Assembly" with the deeper meaning being hidden very subtly behind his seemingly neutral tone) he could get away with it. Long story short, he didn't, the Habsburgs still cracked down on him despite all his carefulness, and he ended up spending three years in prison. He used his time there to learn English from books and write _tons_ of little political dissertations in his diary.

Correction about the LIBERTY STATUE or FREEDOM STATUE : It was first erected in 1947 in remembrance of the Soviet liberation of Hungary during World War II, which ended the occupation by Nazi Germany. It commemorates those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and prosperity of Hungary. The commumism was started in 1949.
