I always buy second hand. Currently playing a TM SIM 10.5, with a mint Tour AD shaft. Cost me £250...This was a £700+ club 3 years ago. I love it and have no plans to change. Particularly when I hear all the horror stories about the new Stealth face issues.

On that last point, I would say your point about getting fitted for your new driver & making sure that you're gaming a driver that fits your swing & is setup properly for you can make a big difference in your game if you're coming from a secondhand set or beginner full bag type set. I just got my first proper driver recently--a PXG Gen4 0811XF (on closeout since I'm too cheap to spend $300+ on one club) w/ a ProjectX Cypher shaft in Stiff flex & oversized grips--and it has certainly made a big difference in my game off the tee.

Since you mentioned a used club being out of the warranty period, it's worth noting that some manufacturers guarantee their products for life.

I own a set of Ping i20 irons that I bought used (from the Callaway pre-owned site). Three of the irons have lost the weights in the last two years. Despite my not being the original owner, and despite them being 10 years old, Ping repaired them for free, even paying for shipping.

agree with all you said, I've started playing golf again after around a 20 year gap, I got myself a cheap and cheerful Dunlop driver for £26.99 and compared it to my original driver from 20 years ago, the age difference 14 to 34 I know will make a difference in available strength but when I went to the driving range for the first time the difference in the two clubs was only around 20 yards or so getting in the region of 220-230 yards, on that note I did try a friends brand new driver he got on sale for £200 (cant remember the brand) and my first 3 hits was 241, 256 and 271 yards, after the third hit he told me to give it him back lol

I think the biggest thing we NEVER talk about when purchasing new clubs is shafts. I used to be a pretty tidy golfer but after almost 20 years out of the game there is a lot of work to do. I have recently had my first brand agnostic paid fitting. What a mind blowing experience. The amount of data you can get these days is phenomenal. I tried to be as deliberately brand agnostic as possible, but shafts played a massive part in which clubs I felt most comfortable with and have subsequently purchased...But shafts never get talked about!

I always try to buy clubs 2-3 years old. I bought by irons and driver brand new, but cheaper because they were older. My irons are Mizuno JPX 921 that I bought for $700, and my driver is a Titleist Tsi2 that was only $350

And while I didnt do a full fitting for my driver, the shop I got it at has a simulator and they were very helpful in allowing me to try it and recommending a different stock shaft that worked better for me.

I had the old titleist 905T in your picture, it's maybe a 15 year old driver. Recently moved to a Taylormade Sim2 Max, decided to get new (300) and not the new stealth 1 or 2 (due to the breakage issjes you mentioned) . I can't believe the difference in forgiveness, absolutely amazing! As you say, no point in upgrading every few years, the technology doesn't change. So I'd recommend getting a new driver that's an older model

Great video Pete. I went to get a new hybrid the other day and I did exactly what you mentioned in the video and ended up with a Wilson Dynapower and absolutely love it.

Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations

I went from having a callaway razor 2012 bought in 2015 (150 bucks) to a TM M2 2017 w HZRDUS stiff shaft in 2021 (175). love the upgrade and love saving money by shopping smart. Watched one of your videos to get the idea of getting a M2. Thanks for these tips!!

Very truthful, informative and hysterical. Laughing out loud at the guys in the background. Great work! After a year of research and a TM fitting, I ordered the new BRNR mini driver. Arriving soon I hope 😁

Haven't watched the video yet but for me (have only been playing for 2 years) it was eye opening to see how much of a difference the correct shaft can make with your driver.

Nice one Lester, as a regular listener and watcher it was fairly obvious how the dynamics worked between you and DH, but at least it’s now clear for all . Looking forward to watching the Golf National vlogs, keep it going and onwards and upwards.

Team - this was hilarious! And educational. Amazing how the golfer was trying to swing like Pete. He’s definitely been watching Swing Quest!
