Intense Second Day of Racing at the 2024 iQFOiL Youth and Junior World Championship in Sa Ràpita! October 29, 2024 – Sa Ràpita, SpainDay 2 of the iQFOiL Youth and Junior World Championship brought challenging conditions and thrilling performances from all 375 athletes, representing 35 nations. With five course races completed across all categories—U17 and U19, both Men and Women—the young sailors faced strong easterly winds, starting at 13 knots in the morning and intensifying to 18 knots by afternoon, with gusts over 20 knots. The choppy waters added an extra test of skill and endurance for everyone competing.U19 Women:In the U19 Women’s division, Darcey Shaw (GBR) was unstoppable, claiming four out of five race wins and taking the lead. Close behind are Maya Gysler (NOR) and Nela Sadilkova (CZE) in second and third, with Italians Carola Colasanto and Medea Falcioni completing the top five.Darcey Shaw commented, “Five course races today, it was very windy, and I’m currently the leader with four wins, so I am super chuffed with that!”U19 Men:Federico Pilloni (ITA) made a powerful start in the U19 Men’s competition, sweeping all five races in the yellow fleet to lead the standings. He’s closely followed by Val Erzen (SLO) and Leonardo Tomasini (ITA). Lucas Gadeyne (FRA) and Igor Lewinski (POL) are neck and neck, setting up a thrilling race for the podium.Federico shared, “Today’s conditions were amazing, with strong winds up to 25 knots. Racing in a tough fleet with Leonardo, I managed five bullets—so it’s a fantastic start to the week for me!”U17 Women and Men:In the U17 Women’s fleet, Alba Klein (ISR) took the lead with a perfect score, winning all five races. Rüya Uğurlu (TUR) and Sofia Zarzecka (POL) are close behind in second and third.For the U17 Men, Marius Polo (FRA) leads the standings, with Davia Aleshko (ISR) and Itamar Levi (ISR) tied on points for a tight race ahead.
