Thats the thing I like about Frieren. Demons arent just humans with horns or outlandish skin colors and extra body parts.
Their completely irredeemable monsters. In the show a Demon says it themselves.
"We are the natural Predators of humans"
I love how unapologetically evil they are.

They're very intelligent mimics. All words of man they use is to benefit themselves. Pure deception. Nothing else.

From what I have seen, the series (show and manga) have gotten close to the idea that just because these characters can't feel emotions, that it doesn't automatically make them evil.
That if someone really did take a demon child to raise and did so with full knowledge of what they were working with, the result would be someone who is at least capable of integrating into human society and not be a complete monster. Naturally that would be an anomaly and would require years and years of Skinnerbox training and disciplined rearing that would to every human onlooker appear downright cruel and evil on it's own.

Problem is, that these characters are, as a rule, gifted with immense power along with being complete sociopaths. The very concept of empathy is a mystery to them. They can't have it and by extention they can't trully expect it. And that is tragic. They will forever be alone, even in the best of situations.

Still doesn't excuse the horrible things they do. But it does give reasoning and meaning to their actions beyond the milktoast "Because

Like 90% of demons are either evil or Good, depending on the universe .

Some demons are human like and some demons are animal like, but most of them are evil while 10% isn’t but it depends on the universe.
