Are you TOO OLD to be an artist?! The question isn't as simple as we think.
How old were you when you decided to get serious about Art?

This video took me a long time and making it became entangled with my personal struggles with fatigue as well. I hope you all find value out of this and know that there's lots of us OLD FOLKS working as artists!

This video teally hits home. I'm 34 with a degree that costed me over 80, 000 in debt and no industry job to show for it. I feel bad but I keep pushing foward.

Thank you for making a video like this. I have been thinking about starting hobbies or trying to learn something, but I feel that I am not as skilled or advancing quick enough in where I want to be and it can feel frustrating when starting. I don't think it is bad if someone is older and that it can show that it is never wrong to try or learn and life is a growing and changing process. It is also good to have a more positive work environment that does not take advantage of people and to help others continue working in that industry.

Im currently a 27 year old computer science major and hate it. I thought about doing some crazy pivot to pursue art with no experience, I hope its a good decision lol

This definitely hits home! I am an ancient beast that had crawled into a cave for hibernation. Little by little, my desire and ambition for the arts started moving again. Each time, I attempt to venture out the cave, fears from thoughts of being too old, it's too late, what if nobody likes my work anymore, etc. send me running back into the cave. Instead of feeding my ambition, I consume loads of spiked honey to help relieve me of my fears. Thank the heavens for the grocery store down the street, which is of course run by bears. But when I see videos like this, it instills old passions and I set the spiked honey back on the shelf and walk out the cave again. Soon, I shall be fully free of that dark cave! Keep these motivational videos coming!!

As a 27-year-old who graduated last year and is struggling to find work, this made me feel better.

I was nodding my head, feeling like you're talking directly to me...and then I read the comments and realize just how many of us directly relate. It's too bad there's such negative energy surrounding taking breaks, or feeling the need to apologize because you have to take one. We're all humans that need to be healthy. Somehow, when money is involved, that seems to escape everyone's minds. Thanks for the video, Meg!

Thanks for this! I've literally just started learning to draw in my 30s. It's been fun but I've barely scratched the surface; so excited to learn more techniques!

Thanks for sharing this! I started learning how to draw at 25 and thought I was ANCIENT. Fast forward three years and seeing how much improvement can be achieved, I’m also a firm believer that you’re never too old. I actually think being older has been helpful because I’ve developed a sense of discipline and can “eat my vegetables” so to speak and focus on the right exercises to improve, something I wouldn’t have been able to do as a 12 year old. 😄

Killed it once again. Keep this energy, keep spitting truth. The age question is age old, but your points in exploitation were perfect. Well done.

Thank you for creating this video essay, as I've been going through a phase of self-reflection and wondered if I'm not working fast or smart enough to achieve my goal of becoming a showrunner, ten years as I've been working in this industry.

It's a good reminder that sometimes our artistic journey (let alone our career goals) can take longer, and it's perfectly fine.

I'm turning the corner on 32 and I do everything I can to try and be the loudest voice about using PTO and fighting for overtime in my department. Like you said, if we've planted our feet firmly in this business (especially somebody like myself, a cis white dude) then it is now our job to help prop up those who can't yell as loud as us. As a producer, I will never look down on an artist who just needs more time, and do my best to always just ask if they need it. We're human beings, and being creative professionally is hard as hell.

As long as you can hold a pencil and pen, you can become an artist.

17?!?! Shish, I'm 35 and feel I'm too old to continue art. Trying to get better at drawing too late in my life. Also working a full-time 9-5 isn't making any easier.
