I’m amazed how people are disappointed because no “pro” apps were announced in this event. 1) this isn’t a software event, and 2) having the M1 in the iPad is a very strong indicator that they are coming. As mentioned, the hardware must be there for the software to perform, common sense.

WWDC would be the event where those pro apps will be announced, I doubt it’ll be this year though as time is tight, but who knows!

I have to say, the iPad has come a long way, people always want more, I do too of course, but if we could just stop and realized where the iPad is at right now, it’s great! As a casual user (email, browsing, note-taking, consuming media, photo editing, a “non-pro” user if you will) the iPad has become my main machine and I still find joy using it.

I keep saying this, but I feel like at WWDC Apple with iOS 15 will make all apps that support or are developed specifically for the M1 available in the form of universal apps on the iPad Pro with M1.

I was like 5 mins into the video & I wasn’t even paying attention I was distracted by that spinning thing in the background 😂😂

Honestly unless they bring desktop photoshop and Lightroom to iPad, I really couldn’t take advantage of the new hardware

If they release their own pro apps like Final Cut Pro etc, they will all come with iPad Subscriptions. Imo

I've been exclusively using Windows Desktop + Windows Ultrabook + Android Tablet for the past decade, but now considering the iPad.
M1 iPad Pro replacing all 3 will depend largely on its software getting more FREEDOM.

I’m positive that Apple wouldn’t put a Liquid XDR display on it for no reason. This is a serious display they wouldn’t offer it to just anyone that isn’t serious about content creation. This is a big hint that pro apps like Final Cut are coming. Even Davinci resolve is optimised for the m1 chip in its new beta and you can be sure it’ll soon come to the iPad Pro.

All I want is external display support, better multi app and multitasking support, and better file management system. Once I have those, I’ll be happy with my 2018 iPad Pro and I’ll get rid of my MacBook.

My current iPad is overkill for what I need it for but it’s lacking those 3 things.

I’ve just ordered the 2021, M1, 12.9 inch, 256GB, wi-if and cellular iPad Pro but not sure I’ve made the right decision as already have the 2020 iPad Pro. So like your said it all hinges on the announcement at the next big Apple event in June. I’m hoping for desktop option for 2021 M1 iPad, otherwise I don’t think I’ll notice that much different. Maybe I should have waited until the announcements in June 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m still incredibly annoyed at Apple for making it pretty much impossible to justify upgrading to the new M1 iPad Pro from the 12.9” 2018 model. I bought a Magic Keyboard last year at the start of the pandemic when I transitioned completely to working from home and I absolutely LOVE the keyboard. And it was great to see the Apple Pencil 2 stay compatible but for absolutely no reason given, Apple has decided the Magic Keyboard is not compatible. So on top of spending a mint on the new 12.9” iPad Pro, you now have to spend around $600 CDN (yup because currency conversion SUCKS) on a new Magic Keyboard. And they hid that fact in their spring event. They only mentioned the new colour for the keyboard, not the fact that the new iPad would require a whole new keyboard case that effectively looks the same as the last-gen. And they don’t offer trade-in credit on the keyboard. While the new iPad is an enticing buy for newcomers, it’s basically impossible to justify for longtime iPad users....unless of course you’re a YouTuber earning thousands of dollars. Some of us are just simple office workers who happen to like working with our iPad Pros to get work done.

You have provided the best reasoning I've seen for and against upgrading to the 2021 iPad Pro! I'm still on the fence about upgrading my 2018 12.9" iPP. I wish the MacBook Air had a better resolution screen, better camera to give the 2021 iPP more attention.

If iPad Pro has M1 then isn't it theoretically able to run MacOS too? I would buy an iPad in a heartbeat if it switches to MacOS when ever keyboard is attached.

How would apps like Apple Notes and Apple Reminders take advantage of the M1 chip on the iPad Pro?

I hope thats changes also affects iPad's pro with A series

Multitasking on iPad pro Last Generation was very laggy in slow, I'm guessing 16 gigs of RAM with the M1 chip should address that - have to consider thermal throttling with such a thin device with no cooling.

I have 2018 12.9 ipadpro 12.9 and all what I want is full external display support, coming from a student

I have this theory let me know what you think. Apple tests battery life at 50% brightness. In order for 12.9" to reach 300nit (equivalent to 11" 50% brightness) it only needs to operate at 30% brightness (since max is 1000nit). Doesn't that mean that in real life usage, if we use the new 12.9" at 300nit, we should be able to squeeze an additional 2-3hours battery life on top of apple quoted 10hr battery life???

If you do a video on iPad apps, can you recommend some apps that are either free or a one-time purchase? I don’t like any apps that require a subscription. Even if an app is pricey, I’d rather buy it instead of paying for a subscription. I’m specifically interested in learning about good apps that don’t follow the subscription model.
