Recording from 21th january 2014 in the ev. Christuskirche, Leverkusen, Germany with Hans-André Stamm, organ. This little piece with its contrapuntal and chromatic aspects shows us the genius Mozart, as it already uses 11 tones of the 12tone chromatic scale within the first two and a half bars. Mozart wrote it on 16th May 1789 with ingenious easiness into the guest book of the Saxon court organist Karl Emmanuel Engel. Mozart was an enthusiastic organ player and loved improvising on this instrument on any occasion, he esteemed it higher than the piano. Tchaikovsky was so amazed by this Gigue that he orchestrated it in his 4. suite "Mozartiana" together with other Mozart themes.
