I was afraid he was gonna dry fire it, and then I remembered that this guy definitely knows more than me about bows.

Could you maybe make a video on other ways to make bowstrings besides using rawhide?

Everyone makes it sound so stupid and tedious or promises to be a genius or something horribly off or yuppie. This guy is doing these videos because he loves it and he's like stupid practical, straight to the point. Lots of overlapping information from one to the other he's not just some stone napping hope in a cave that does one thing and harps on about another. This is pure infotainment.

My first bow was made out of green branch from a small tree at my grandmothers house and a white shoe string and the arrow rest was a thumbtack. All my arrows were just sharpened sticks with plastic soda bottle fletching.

It was exciting to see the first vid and to see a close to finished product is awesome. I used to make way lighter poundage bows the same way as a kid. Mostly to just goof around but the difficulty with being a kid was I didn’t have the best tools and all that so this was the only practical way for me to enjoy archery. I’m part Blackfoot Native from what my parents had told me and I’ve always enjoyed just Native culture to begin with so I had researched Native practices such as bow making and farming and even making jewelry and I’m now 24 and have been teaching my son the same things and it’s your video series that sparked the idea to follow through with a bow especially in the hotter months here in Missouri. It’s a beautiful thing imo to see the knowledge of Old passed down to the next generation and I just wanted to say keep up the great content and dedication to spreading knowledge and some positive energy.

Have you ever tried heating the wood over the fire and then bending it over a rock or between trees? You can get a nice curve on each end this way…as long as you don’t cook it took long like I did

I started making my very first bow today 'july 3 2024', and I am so surprised at how well it is turning out. I'm thinking I might have a niche for making things out of what's available in the environment around me.

Is there a full length video on making the bow? I know we live in a world where a goldfish attention span is the norm, but there are still a few of us out here that appreciate the longer videos. I didnt see it listed on the channel but i don't trust the YT app to actually desplay whats actually there.

No such thing as force drying wood. All you did was brittlize the wood by forcing the moisture out instead of giving the wood time to properly dissipate the trapped moisture. A properly aged piece of wood will be 2-3x as strong as a piece of wood roasted over the fire. Sure, this will work in a pinch and as long as you’re careful. It’ll last long enough to hopefully produce results. Just don’t expect it to take any abuse.

Be nice to actually put it on a scale to see the draw weight. 50lbs at 23 is mighty generous.

I make bows and it takes me like 20
How long did that take you?! Had to have been every bit of 4 to 5 hours? Maybe? 50 pounds is really good for that size and length.

Impressive.

You should film a hunt.

If you’re not a bow hunter find one and let him film a bow hunt with you bow and arrow.

FPS?
