Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a contagious disease that is caused by Coxsackievirus. While it usually affects infants and children under 5 years old, occasionally adults will also get the disease.

I’ve had hand foot mouth before and trust me, it hurts. You can’t even walk or pick stuff up without it feeling like you have a bunch of tiny rocks throw at your hands and feet.

To be fair you can get hand, foot & mouth disease from touching any object that has been coughed at or touched by an infected person, be it thrift clothes, regular clothes or anything else

Thats truly does suck, but a seasoned thriftier or goodwill adventure always wears gloves, masks and use bags that is only for thrifting to wash and sanitize clothes and objects Immediately!

Hand foot and mouth is NO JOKE
I had it a couple years ago and I remember on day 1 I had a 102 degree fever, nausea, migraines, back pain, fatigue, pressure in the eyes, and a sore throat so bad I couldn’t even drink

Went to a hospital, got a covid test, and went home to sleep

I wake up the next day feeling much better aside from my throat still hurting, but I noticed a couple dots on my hands and feet
I decided to monitor them for more
More appeared shortly after

Called my mom, she said “sounds like hand foot and mouth”, and I said “what the F#@€ is hand foot and mouth?”

I found out. My hands, feet, and face all had spots. My skin on those areas started to crust over and eventually after the sickness died down the most horrific scene played out

ALL THE SKIN on my hands, feet, and face started to just peel off of me
It was like I was a reptile shedding my skin

Please use sanitizer before and after, and wash your hands throughly ASAP when handling anything other people have touched.

Protect yourself and others from illnesses like this

My 27 year old daughter had it three weeks ago. Worst case of mouth and tongue lesions I’ve ever seen. We think she caught it while at a regional teaching conference, from another teacher.
She never contracted it in her own classroom, from kids who were sent home with it. We know that children will share their germs, even if they won’t share anything else.

I still got scars from coxsackie. It was right before I started working in a place I had to wear gloves (my doc cleared me as not being contagious, but the blisters remained). Turns out I’m allergic to latex gloves as well. I had blisters and hives, and had to wash my hands repeatedly and use hand sanitizer. My skin started sloughing off. My hands looked like a zombie movie. I cried a lot.

Finally, the HFM ran its course with the stupid blisters, my employer started ordering a supply of non-latex gloves, and washing my hands didn’t mean washing parts of my hands down the sink.

I had this. I only got it in my mouth around my tonsils, and you basically can’t eat anything without excruciating pain. My sister got it when she was two. Imagine that for a two y/o!

When I used to work at goodwill as a clothing grader/sorter they didn't give us gloves or even hand sanitizer. So I literally had to go buy them myself and give them to all my coworkers. It was crazy the stuff they expected us to just be touching with our bare hands...you would not believe how many people think they can donate dirty underwear

The first time I got this it was the most painful virus I’ve ever gotten, my finger nails also were starting to peeling off, it was just the worst. I couldn’t do anything I couldn’t eat, drink, walk or anything else cause everything I did hurt.

I had hand foot and mouth once and I had to end up drinking pedialyte because I had sores all in my mouth and couldn’t chew food for like two weeks and was losing a ton of weight because I couldn’t eat.

Omg its so rare for me to hear my disease named out loud. I have a persistent coxacie infection that caused heart disease, gi issues and a neuroimmune diseasw that left me needing a wheelchair to leave my house. I've been sick for 13 years now.

Please be aware it can ruin your life. If you get it please rest, don't pus yourself for months after recovering because it can cause latent rna viruses to begin multiplying instead of allowing your body to clear the infection.

Beware!

It is the worst thing. My kids got it from kindergarten some years back and passed it on to me. I suffered a whole week of fever, boils and itching pain.

I got this about 5 years ago. My feet and hands were burning so bad. I kept ice packs on them and couldn't move my fingers around. It was excruciating pain to walk. It was one of the most terrible times in my life.

i got hand foot mouth as a teenager, i was maybe 13 and i had never had it before. my younger sister who was 2 at the time also had it, she got over it in a couple of days with minimal problems.

i had a horrendous fever for the first two days, then the itching started. all on my hands, my feet, between my fingers, on my lips, on my hairline, covered in red dots that never blistered, never got any satisfaction from scratching. it was so bad that i could not sleep for the entire week and a half i had them. the spots became sores that stayed on my hands for about a month, and i my hairline receded in a few spots from the spots.

don’t get hand foot mouth as a teenager.

Listen! Goodwill is NOT a not- for- profit organization. There is NO REASON for them to be putting crap in bins!!! This
Pi$$3s me of so bad! If goodwill uses bins I refuse to shop there and I am a thrift store lover 💯!!! I'm so sorry this happened to her.

I got this when I was 23. I cried from how painful my hands and feet were. Thankfully I didn’t get any blisters in my mouth

As someone whose had that disease I’ll tell ya it’s very painful it feels like a sharping stinging pain. I remember catching it and my family avoiding going near me like the plague 🤣 not the best experience of my life. I was given Tylenol, clindamycin phosphate, benzoyl peroxide, hydrocortisone.
