Augschthäligtag | Assumption of Mary Procession in Appenzell, Switzerland

In Appenzell Innerrhoden, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary is called Augschthäligtag. The day begins with the Eucharistic celebration at the parish church of Saint Mauritius in Appenzell. After the mass, the procession moves through the village’s main street. The women wear their traditional Innerrhoden holiday costumes, while the young women wear the black and white maiden’s costume, known as Täfelimeedle, as they carry painted wooden plaques depicting the 15 Mysteries of the Rosary.
