Should you keep the 'TWIN Turbos' or Single Turbo CAT C15 Acert?

Yes yes yes, I know they're not twins :), but I knew most people refer to them as twins and I wanted to make it easier for folks to find this video so that we can all learn something!

Considering single turbo-ing you Caterpillar C15 acert? Then this is the video for you!

The Caterpillar C15 ACERT comes from the factory with COMPOUND turbos, a GT42 and a GT55. While these turbos are fantastic, that can be costly and difficult to work around. Many folks opt to single turbo turbo their C15 acert to simply that side of the engine, this making it easier and more cost effective to maintain.

There is no right or wrong answer here, but I am going to do me best to tell you the PROs and CONs of each!

4 years on your FullTilt manifold and single turbo 80mm 1.32 and good tune. 700hp on a crank. No issues. Absolutely love this set up!

Dual Turbo MXS Factory 600 🐎
The turbos used to have issues with mounting bolts breaking and the bellows breaking or coming loose.
We tried turning it up but it wrecked a liner within 24 hours of being tuned up to 725. The turbos didn't mind either way.
Replaced all the liners and tuned it back to 525 to promote engine longevity.
Have your tuning done by a reputable outfit. And make sure they have an in house Dyno. The good shops dyno all tuning to make sure it's 100% correct. The place I used didn't and there was a tuning problem they couldn't fix it because no Dyno!!!!

Definitely waffles, less cake and more crunch and not soggy as fast and they go better with fruit toppings😊 Oh and I believe that twins are better because of more frequent street driving ... More streetable is worth the extra clutter in the end requirement for me

The two turbos fit pretty tight. The two turbos are great. I am happy with my 2011 caterpillar engine. My truck was built in 2010 but titled as 2011. The only thing that I would change is the exhaust filter. Although the filter works very well just don't shut off the engine if the exhaust indicates it is hot. When it's hot carbon is being cooked.

I put a dial in front diesel freak on my acert and it gave me a great range of power and better fuel economy, because I wasn't working the gearbox as much. I was driving a 2009 western star pulling triple road train in the Australian outback.

I think it's time to get this compound crap off my back! Shit leaks like a wicker basket!
Will my Steed Speed Manifold still werk with the single conversion?

Great information, as I have the accert with the compound set-up and have contemplating the switch to single turbo, when mine needs replacing.

I will contact you for getting the whole kit.

Again, thanks!

Great Video! In your opinion do you think the C-15 Acert Factory Two Turbos cause blowby earlier in the engines life than the original 3406 or 6NZ single turbo?

I heard the compression ratio of the single is bigger than the twin, if you make the conversion and dont replace the piston rings to high performance piston rings and the head block as well you are more likely to have an engine blow out due to more power being put in.

What is the maximum boost pressure? 20 lbs will probably spin the tires in the rain when you're empty, taking off a little uphill, on the rain slick road.. Old "B" modle 5 speed, low end torque to spin the earth the wrong way.Mack. Awesome trucks.

I’m not looking forward for my compounds to fail but I am looking forward to swap to a single now is better to go with a gated or Waste gated

I know lots of guys that make more power and get better mileage. I did that with my old big cam Cummins and I have friends that have done it with 12.7 Detroit engines.

I drive a C15 Acert MXS. There have been several drivers before me and I’m just now getting the truck to 400, 000 miles. Bad blow by and oil coming out from where the pan and bottom end meet. Does this blow by not only affect the motor but also the compounds? Power is all there and fuel mileage is sitting at 3.1 mpg.

I heard that the single turbo conversions get low boost on the low side it’s no power
