Divine Shepherd Live Stream - Sunday, July 2, 2023 10:00 AM (Modern)
The Message Connect to Your Country Pastor Brent Smith
PRAYER FOR WORSHIP
Eternal Father, Ruler of all nations, as we prepare to celebrate our country’s birth, we thank You for all the blessings enjoyed in our land. Teach us anew to treasure the freedom of conscience and worship that are cornerstones of this country’s principles. Increase loyalty to You and to our beloved country. Above all, speed the course of Your Gospel among us, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, hearts are turned to that freedom from sin and death that You alone graciously give through Jesus Christ. Amen.
THIS WEEKEND IN WORSHIP
Total peace in our time would be a wonderful thing to experience, as countless things in life are anything but peaceful. We celebrate Independence Day remembering that the peace and freedoms we enjoy are gifts from God provided through the service and sacrifice of many people. Take a moment to honor our founders. The Bible readings call us connect to the country God has provided for us. False prophets preach false peace. However, Jeremiah is inspired to speak truth among the people. Our nation is not perfect, therefore all people are called to repent and look to God to help us be a positive influence in our generation. During a time of internal tension and external threats, the Apostle Paul reminds us that our momentary afflictions are nothing compared to eternal life with Christ (2 Cor. 4:17-18). Jesus sets up earthly authorities for our benefit to “render to Caesar the things Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s” (Matt. 22:21).
