We’re bringing together an expert panel to talk about what rights photographers have and whether there are any options for those who want to use social media but don’t want to give up control of their images. Announced panelists include Louis J. Levy, a DC attorney who specializes in copyright and trademark issues, Thomas Maddrey, general counsel for the American Society of Media Photographers, Cheriss May, president of the Women Photojournalists of Washington (WPOW), and Allen Murabayashi, co-founder of PhotoShelter.

*How To Register Your (Photo) Copyrights.* This information & links are current as of February 2022. Official US Copyright Office website: www.copyright.gov

You can NOT mix published and unpublished photographs in the same application; they must be separated into their own designated applications.

Registering groups of photographs can be very TEDIOUS, as you’re required to provide a photo title and file name (and date of first-publication for published works) for each photograph being registered. The USCO also provides a free Excel template to create these titles (that you upload with your completed application, registration fee, and deposited works). Prepare this prior to registering/visiting the USCO.
