Academy Award-winning visual effects artist Eric Brevig makes his feature directorial debut with this adaptation of the classic Jules Verne fantasy starring Brendan Fraser. When an ambitious science professor (Fraser) develops a decidedly unconventional hypothesis, the mere mention of his name is enough to elicit laughter within the academic community. However, during a subsequent excursion to Iceland, the professor and his nephew make a major scientific discovery that sends them miles beneath the surface of the Earth, where they discover not only strange new worlds, but also encounter creatures so alien they appear to be from another world entirely.

I think this film was better than the second one

Back in my junior year in high school, I recommended this movie to my chemistry teacher because he was asking my class a movie for all of us that would education for us to watch. We only got to watch half of the film, but everyone still liked it. I told everyone to be quite so they could hear the joke at 1:29-1:39. My teacher tried so hard not to laugh at that.

In addition, just before they went down that hole and Trevor said "It's about your basic 20-story high-rise", my teacher's eyes widen and his jaw dropped. He asked me to pause the movie because he was so surprised. He literally asked the class "Did you hear what he just said?!"
