Great job. Too bad things went awry. You did the right thing, in the right tone.

My aunt lived in her house for 30+ years + friends with everyone but then she started acting odd, fighting over minor issues, accusing neighbors of breaking in to steal from her garage etc. Turns out she developed a form of schizophrenia found in elderly people. Angry, paranoid, hostile... It was difficult even with medication.

You were raised well. There are people who are just angry with the world, and they have probably spent their whole lives spewing vitriolic rants to bully others so they can get their way...very sad...You did an excellent job.

Trying to reason with people who lack reason, intelligence, class, and common decency is an exercise in futility. Sadly some people only respond to force. You’re likely going to need a court to exercise force.

Just give the few days he asked for so he can get her back on her med's! Damn brother I honestly don't envy you except for your diplomatic demeanor! You're the guy I'd want in a negotiation that's for sure !

I can hardly believe Joanne's long-suffering husband said "...talk about what?..", like he'd just landed on this planet. He's probably terrified of Joanne, and is trying to forget everything.

I live in a trailer park that you buy and own the trailer but the land is owned by the park. Each trailer does in a since have its own space that is basically laid out by landscaping that has been done many years ago. When I purchased my trailer I added a sprinkler system to the yard to water the grass and my nieghbor even helped me put it in. He eventually moved and a grouchy old man bought his trailer. The first thing he did was put a shed under a tree that seemingly was part of my yard. After the first leaf loss of the tree he came knocking at my door saying I need to cut it down becouse it clogged the the rain gutters he had put on his little 8'x8' shed. I told that I didn't own the property or the tree and he needed to take his problem up with the park owners. He did and they told him that he may remove the tree if it was OK with me. So he came back to me and told me the park owners said that the tree must be removed and that I had to pay half for it's removal. I showed him a letter that I had just recieved from the parks manager stating that the neighbor could remove the tree as long as I agreed to it. I also pointed out that no where did it say I had to pay half. So he did have the tree removed at his expense. But I guess due to not helping him pay to remove the tree he decided that he needed to do a plot assessment of the property which he found on google. I am sure it was a permit drawing of some sort for the original build of the park. Looking out my window he was going back and forth in my front yard with a 100 ft. tape measure. I found this rather funny and went and got my wife so she could get a laugh out of it. We both laughed and let him go about his business of measuring the yard. Of course a couple days later I got a knock on the door and he was saying that 4 of my sprinkler heads were on his property by 6", I again told him that it wasn't his property nor was it mine and to take it up with the park owners. As you can guess the park owners are now about sick of him and told him the same thing. They called me and asked how I felt about the situation, I told them I didn't care because the property wasn't mine as I didn't care about the tree. I did say that he could move the heads 6" my way but could not just remove them as they were watering my yard. He then hired a landscaping crew to come out and move the heads. The funny thing was they were 180 degree heads that watered into my yard and when he moved them it left 6" of dead grass in his yard. Never figured that one out or why he would want to do something like that but what ever floats your boat. He was a constant pain in my ass and very nosy about everything I did. Me and my wife were standing on the side of the house talking about what a pain in the ass he was and I told my wife watch this, I picked up my hammer and hit a 4x4 post I had in the ground about 10 times with the hammer and told her it would take him 5 seconds to come out and see what I was doing...LOL like clock work out he came. Me and my wife laughed and went in the house. The sad thing about all of this is he finally passed away. He lie dead in his trailer for 4 days before anyone knew he had passed. As much as I did not care for him it broke my heart that he was so alone.

Property lines can be tricky. Me and my neighbors have about a 10 foot wide swath we call the neutral zone. Once a tree in the zone had to be cut down and we split the cost.

That poor man has no idea what to do and probably so scared to tell his wife. I hope you get a lawyer and get everything in writing.

Well said- but the unfortunate thing is the lady is not perceiving reality and that’s not going to make it easier on anyone.

The husband seems open to dialogue. He should be told if someone is going on his property and recording him before putting it up on YouTube as well.

I did fencing many years ago
It is common courtesy to set the nice side toward neighbors and, you should set it back at least 2 to 3 feet so you have access for maintenance.
But you have to make it clear to the neighbors and the town you're doing this so it is documented and they know it is still not their property.
You can use mulch or crushed stone, anything which marks the actual property line before the fence

You seem like a reasonable dude. Why oh why do neighbors from hell exist. Seems we all have them.
Well done.

Not a good contractor if he didn't look at plot lines and make sure. Give the contractor a chance to make it right, if he refuses . You can pay to have the fence moved and sue the contractor.
