As someone looking for a new job, it sure feels like a bad time.

Job security is a myth.
Career security is the goal. You must occasionally switch jobs to maintain it. Staying too long at one company is bad while job hopping too frequently is also bad.

I just switched jobs because I figured if I stayed at my previous job, I was either going to go on stress leave or have a heart attack. If your health is at risk and you can find another job that pays your bills, I recommend going for it.

I recently took a new job to get out of a toxic work environment. It was 100% worth it.

I didn't buy my house so the next owner could dictate the way I live in my house, and I don't invest in skills so employers can dictate my career path. Scarcity-mindset will cost you everything.

Everything about the labor market has changed, but companies still insist on treating the job search like it's the 1960s. I fear losing my job, just a mediocre office job, not because I like it but because I know I'll never be able to find a replacement job

When you're qualified and doing all the right things and still getting rejected, you know it's not your fault. These phases come and go. Hang in there.

I’m not really surprised how non empathetic people are, but it’s so disappointing how cruel people can be especially in corporate America

I lost my job unexpectedly due to management decision. It's been almost 3 months now and I'm still looking for the right job. It sucks!

Its horrible now. 100 applications later a couple of intervews, all rejections.

I quit without a job as I was tired with the toxic manager and toxic environment.
I decided to take a break, and slowly look for job that better suits me... rather than jumping into another toxic workplace. With the bad economy, many employers are not treating their employees well - most having the mentality like "if you don't do as I told, I have others who are queuing up for the job". Let's chill, and see if the economy could be better soon.

Hey, who knows, perhaps I could be an inspiring YouTuber just like you! :0)

Summer is a bad time. Managers and HR are on vacation or planning vacations. You need to find a job between September and holiday season (Thanksgiving - New Years in USA).

It's never a bad time to look for a new job in my opinion, it's just the fear of not getting promoted to that specific job that makes it seem like a bad time to search for a new job.

I see the statistics about how there are still plenty of openings available, especially in retail/food service, but it doesn’t seem that way. I work for a nationally-known retailer, and in our system I saw a seasonal retail position that had received 100+ applications in less than a week. And then online I’m reading quite a few stories of people getting ghosted/rejected by retail and food service jobs, which are supposedly “desperate for workers.”

Just from my anecdotal experience, it certainly doesn’t seem like the job market is strong. Maybe there are a lot of people re-entering the workforce. Maybe a lot of these job ads are ghost jobs. Maybe the hiring process at large companies has become so bureaucratic that they can’t fill simple vacancies. Maybe all of the above?

But for people who have no choice, what does it matter if it's not a good time?

Always be on the lookout for the BBD, the bigger better deal. Most companies don’t know the first thing about employee motivation and retention

I am looking because of a toxic situation. I have been begging for documentation for 2 years. I have a learning disability but told to suck it up. Any other employer in the past 15 years has had documentation for me. We just lost our best person and my workload has doubled. I am starting my search now expecting to find something in 6 to 8 months. Anyone decent has left long ago and I am stuck with incompetent and lazy people.

For me (welding engineer), I notice a rather obvious cyclic trend in energy and in the wider fabrication / construction / manufacturing sectors. My discipline seems to be quite strong based (ATM) on the amount of cold contacts I’m getting from recruiters (lately). I’ve just accepted a new offer (moving from 10 years in oil and gas, 4 years with my present employer…into aerospace). There’s a saying that I’d like to share that came from a senior mentor “you are always interviewing”.
