I'll show you how to do this in this video, and after watching it you'll have a better understanding of the different types of sharepoint sites and the benefits of setting a site as your home site.
Learn the about SharePoint Home Sites vs SharePoint Hub Sites! In this video, we'll be exploring the differences between these two SharePoint features and helping you decide which one is best for your business. We know that SharePoint is an essential tool for many organizations, and we're here to help you make the most of it.

Let's start with SharePoint Home Sites. A SharePoint Home Site is the top-level communication site in a SharePoint environment. It serves as the landing page for your SharePoint portal, providing a personalized and dynamic experience for your users. This site acts as a central hub for news, events, and resources that are relevant to your entire organization.

On the other hand, a SharePoint Hub Site is a site that connects sites together to promote a cohesive experience across your SharePoint intranet. It's a site that helps you organize and connect related sites, content, and news across your organization. A Hub Site can be associated with a SharePoint Home Site, and it's an excellent way to provide a consistent experience for users across different sites.

So, what is the difference between SharePoint Home Sites and SharePoint Hub Sites? Well, while SharePoint Home Sites are focused on providing a central hub for your organization's news, events, and resources, SharePoint Hub Sites are designed to help you organize and connect related sites and content across your intranet. SharePoint Hub Sites are more about promoting consistency and cohesion across your intranet, while SharePoint Home Sites are more about providing a personalized experience for users.

By default, the SharePoint Home Site is the top-level communication site in your SharePoint environment, and it's the landing page for your SharePoint portal. However, you can change the default Home Site if you need to. To set a site as your Home Site in the SharePoint Admin Center, go to the Settings page and select "Set as Home Site." From there, you can choose the site you want to set as your Home Site.

Global navigation is an essential aspect of SharePoint Home Sites. It helps users find what they're looking for quickly and efficiently. To enable global navigation on your SharePoint Home Site, go to Site Settings and select "Navigation." From there, you can choose to use the SharePoint default navigation or create a custom one. With a custom navigation menu, you can organize links to the most important pages and resources across your intranet.

Customizing the global navigation on your SharePoint Home Site is an excellent way to make it more user-friendly and accessible. You can add links to important pages and resources, as well as customize the look and feel of the navigation menu.

I am not fluent yet but your videos are helping me to get there, albeit slowly. The concepts I understand, but like many things the 'devil is in the details'. Your knowledge of SharePoint is clearly apparent ... and very helpful. Thank you ...

Really appreciate the instructions on getting the global navigation set up - none of the other sources have mentioned that!

Great videos Dougie, very informative and relevant. One suggestion, you should please remove the photo slider as it is becomes very distracting when trying to follow your cursor movements around the screen.

At the 3:27 mark " ... whereas an Enterprise level company might have multiple Hub sites, but they might only have one home site ...."

Question please: I understand only one home site is allowed. So can I presume it is 'one' home site with each M-365 license?

Thank you ... loving your channel ... it's been very helpful.

The up flow news is incredible. Whats this feature called please?

When setting permission to the child hubs, is it possible that for example a guest wont see the hub? Or any of the links? Or homepage.

Basically. See only the page they were invited to

Mister Dougie, can you let me know if there is a way to test setting a page as hub site and/or home site in the background, without immediately rolling it out to the entire company?

How do I replace my intranet's existing homepage (a wikipage) with a newly created Hub site?

So there is no longer a "home site" button to paste in a URL. Instead I'm being directed to create a viva connections experience before I can designate a home site... I missed the copy paste URL window I guess..
