Just got one for my daughter in Denver. No money down $99 a month for a two year lease. Totally worth that.

In 2024 there still is not an EV that has the value everything Tesla offers. The drivetrain, Supercharger Network and most of the car's SOFTWARE.

The LEAF actually came out in 2010, so Nissan has had more time with it than Tesla has had (even with the Model S). The fact they are still running ChAdeMO shows how much Nissan doesn't get it.

I think the leaf sits a bit higher than the 3, so is easier to get into. We like the large hatch, solid roof, door frames and old fashioned switches. For a deal look for a 1-2 year lease return for < $20 K. This car is a great around town vehicle/golf cart.

My first EV was a 1st generation Leaf. I think it got 80 miles to a charge. It was ok for my commute but definitely couldn’t do a road trip in it. I upgraded to a Model Y almost 4 years ago.

The Nissan ProPilot on the Leaf is a good as Tesla's Autopilot, if not better. I leased a 2019 SL (higher trim level no longer offered) for 2 years to do my work commute. Turn on ProPilot and the car would steer itself on marked roads and included adaptive speed control. The steering wheel did not need to be torqued to let the system know you had the hands on the wheel like the Tesla. In 2 years I had only 2 instances of "phantom braking", and those were minor braking for a split second. The car was very quiet and yes, the seats (leather in my case) were quite comfortable. The Leaf is MUCH easier to enter and exit than a M3. With e-pedal on, it has true one pedal driving, something the Ariya does not have.

The Leaf supplies battery temp, range efficiency, charging time is all there, but you just need to know where to look. It has the all around view camera which is not available in any Tesla to date. It only has charging timers, but it does not have a charge limit (ie 80%).

It has the stealth EV appeal as described, no one is screaming at you or key lacing your door.

The Leaf is dated but if I still had mine, I would be happy with it commuting or around town.

My 2017 Leaf dropped about 40% of its range in the cold due to heavy heat use on about a 50 mile commute.

It dropped about 13% of its range from new after 18 months (dealer verified).

I do not recommend buying one.

I love how you're getting worked up over your own comparison that you set up. You're awesome man

I went from a base model Leaf to a Model y 3 months ago. The Tesla is miles ahead, but so much more $$. I had to upgrade the 3rd time I got stuck far from home because of broken or removed Chademo chargers.

Leaf Plus charges up to 100kw. not 50kw. owners routinely sustain 73kw. At least get the facts right

I appreciate the respect for heritage and nissan retaining their rustic build. You have sold me on the Leaf good sir!

The Leaf isn't a car you buy new anymore. I bought a 2020 in May with less than 23, 000 mi on it for less than 14k. I am extremely happy with what I got for how much I paid.

Excellent review, as usual. One additional thing that I believe is still true is the Leaf has no battery thermal management, which can result in "cold-gating" when fast-charging due to an overly cold or hot battery. The lack of thermal management, at least in the past, has lead to shorter battery lifespan and the need for complete battery replacement. I am not 100% sure these things are still true on current-generation Leaf's, but I think they are. If I am correct about that, then I would only ever recommend a Leaf if it is leased for a very low price and then returned to the dealer at the end of the lease and before the traction battery warranty expires. Perhaps one of the other folks in the comment section who is more knowledgeable than me can validate or refute the battery issues I mention. All the best.

All that being said, the "Leaf" name is waaaay cooler than - - - Model 3. That's got to be worth at least $7, 000-$8, 000. 😅

One big concern for the Leaf is that it doesn't have any thermal management for the battery - Tesla does an excellent job with battery thermal management. I wouldn't recommend a Leaf in Arizona (full disclosure: I own a Leaf and live in Colorado).

I just picked up the “Stripper Showered” collection from Bath and Body Works. Smells great and brings back summer time memories with my boys. 👯‍♀️
