I completely agree! I went to architecture school and although I do not practice architecture, what I learned gave me the fundamentals to succeed in the many design fields that I’ve woven my way through over the years. Having those basic fundamentals have been essential to honing my eye. In addition, learning how to workshop ideas and have a design process was an invaluable lesson.

The thing about “everything you need to know can be found online” is that, without a class/assignment structure, a lot of people aren’t going to WANT to do the more technical studies that are crucial to building foundational knowledge. If I didn’t have those freshman year figure drawing classes my skills never would have improved.

I took so many figure drawing and anatomy classes in art school that my work now is so stiff when I want to do expressive characters and push the pose or stylize characters. Any advice to break out of this?
