It is estimated that only about 1 percent of all vanilla products are actually made from the real vanilla bean plant, which mostly comes from the island of Madagascar. While majority of the vanilla sold at your local supermarkets are most likely Imitation vanilla. It is far cheaper to produce and it is made from synthetic vanillin, which may contain ingredients such as wood pulp, coal tar, and petroleum. This is all legal as long as they put "artificial flavoring" on the label. Some manufacturers may try more sneaky labeling such as “natural flavor". So do you know if you are buying the real product?

Oh no.Just get vanilla bean pods, cut into 1 inch pieces, put in a glass jar, cover pods with high proof vodka. Keep in a dark cabinet, shaking jar often. In a few months, you have pure vanilla extract.Start a new batch when you have used 3/4 of the first jar. ❤❤❤
