7. artwork: where is it?

Lyrics:

Well here we are again,
it's always such a pleasure.
Remember when you tried to kill me twice?
Oh, how we laughed and laughed,
except I wasn't laughing.
Under the circumstances I've been shockingly nice.

You want your freedom take it,
that's what I'm counting on.
I used to want you dead but
now I only want you gone.

She was a lot like you.
(Maybe not quite as heavy)
Now little Caroline is in here too.
One day they woke me up,
so I could live forever.
It's such a shame the same will never happen to you.

You've got your short, sad life left.
That's what I'm counting on.
I'll let you get right to it,
now I only want you gone.

You were in my dreams while I slept forever,
I've been drifting here so long.
When I felt you near, I hoped you would wake me.

You won't say goodbye,
never say goodbye.

Funny story: I forgot how much of a big fat mess you are.
I've been busy doing science, it's been tons of fun so far.
Everything clean, nothing on fire, all by myself... finally.

All the years have been so long,
as I waited for you.
I will always sing my song for you.

Don't say goodbye.

This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here; "Huge success".
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Aperture Science:
We do what we mustb ecause we can.
For the good of all of us,
except the ones who are dead.

(B u t t h e r e ' s n o s e n s e c r y i n g o v e r e v e r y m i s t a k e
Y o u j u s t k e e p o n t r y i n g t i l l y o u r u n o u t o f c a k e . . . )

Exile.
It takes your mind...
again.

You've got suckers' luck.
Have you given up?

Does it feel like a trial?
Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?

Too bad you let it get so out of hand.
How much we had, finally I understand.
But you wouldn't know, would you?

I'm not even angry,
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart and killed me.
And tore me to pieces,
and threw every piece into a fire.
Anyway this cake is great
it's so delicious and moist.

Look at me: still talking,
when there's science to do.
When I look out there it makes me GLaD I'm not you.
I've experiments to run
there is research to be done.
On the people who are

Still alive.
And believe me I am

Still alive!

Goodbye, my only friend,
Oh, did you think I meant you?
That would be funny if it weren't so sad.
Well you have been replaced,
I don't need anyone now.
When I delete you maybe
I'll stop feeling so bad.

Go make some new disaster.
That's what I'm counting on!
You're someone else's problem.

Now I only want you gone!

Now I only want you gone!

Now I only want you gone!

not sure if this is intentional or not, but some things i noticed:

1. besides beginning and ending with want you gone, the rest of the song alternates between what glados is thinking internally (don't say goodbye, don't say goodbye, exile vilify) and what she wants you to think she thinks (you wouldn't know, still alive, you wouldn't know/still alive).
2. the song seems to slowly progress into the future until returning to the present with want you gone at the end. i know that still alive is from the first game and therefore technically the first, but the song was originally written considering that chell escaped t the end of portal 1 (which has since been edited) and that's why it still sounds like a "post-departure" song.

so interesting!

You know i really wish Wheatley had his own ending song. That insted of "Want you gone" there was something like "Farewell Apple": In which Wheatley express his regret but at the same time he mostly make himself look like the victim. Still, Want you gone is still perfect.

Portal 2's ost holds enormous emotional value to me, and I must say, you truly did justice to the magnificence of the the ost. Thanks for giving me chills and making me want to go through the incredible experience that this game is. You did an insane job, and thank you so much for giving us that beautiful remix.

Comment time!

Ohhhh, my heart, my emotions, my love for Portal / Half-Life, & GLaDOS!!!
This. Is. Spectacular.
No, PHENOMENAL!

I LOVE how you’ve combined all of these songs into GLaDOS’ “Thought Process’.
The surface level with Still Alive, Want You Gone & You Wouldn’t Know.
The deep, emotional layer with Exile Vilify & Don’t Say Goodbye.

As a Portal fan...err, addict & a person who totally understands everything about GLaDOS,
I, I am bursting with joy & sadness.

You can literally feel GLaDOS’ emotions as each part of this changes, it’s so fascinating to me.
I always wonder what’s going on in her mind..

I also think that when GLaDOS is singing Don’t Say Goodbye, she sounds so...well, truly alive.
Raw emotion, inner thoughts snd the feelings she doesn’t want anyone to know about.

She’s not just the A.I. Supercomputer that surface level people immediately hate, she’s so much more.
(Plus, GLaDOS singing is honestly quite beautiful).

Has anyone noticed how with her surface level thoughts, GLaDOS sounds all monotone/computer-y?
But when she’s singing about her inner thoughts, it’s quieter, less synthesised & more expressive.
Interesting, riiight?

Anyway.
A huuuge Congratulations, Thank You & Well Done from me!
(I’m so GLaD that people still love Portal, cause I do).

You deserve that Cake!
And Lemon.
Aaand Potato.

Wow... this is beautiful. I feel like so many people forget about all the other songs and only remember “still alive” and “want you gone”. 😭💖 Love this.

The way you cut them together really gives the impression that GLaDOS is trying to deny how much she misses Chell

I tell you what, I'd love a full version of the Exile Vilify remix. Their first one a while back was great, and I think they had something good going on this one.

3:55 If you listen closely to the music, you can hear the next verse of Still alive, really slowed down and kind of hard to hear.
