TLDR;
-Check the Monster Field Guide
-Use the Kirin-Set (at least 3 parts, for the bonus)
-Use 2 Legiana pieces for the Legiana Bonus
-Eat The Lucky Liquor Platter (for the Lucky Cat Food Buff)
-Do High-Rank Investigations from the Resource-Center with Gold Rewards
-Always Capture the monster, even if the game says "Hunt xxx", capturing it works fine and gets You more rewards
-GIve your Palico the Plunderblade

I made a similar set yesterday, but didn't want to rely on thunder attack or marathorn runner because i wanted it to be more weapon neutral and enjoy some nice freeelement from some weapons that i don't use that much for their elemental

Combination of:
Legiana Helma A
Kirin Jacket B
Legiana Vembrances A
Kirin Hoop A
Kirin Leg Guards B

This gives the core skills that we need (lagiana flavor, kirin favor) plus:
Divine blessing+3, free element+3, blight resistance +1, airborne +1
4 tier 1 jewels and 1 tier two jewel

I run it with attack talisman level 3 and an attack jewel, so i can get a little more offensive as well. With this set you can put part breaker in that tier 2 slot and stack it in the weapon if if want. Or use a weakness exploit talisman with a weakness exploit jewel in that slot.

This is just an alternative for those that want to use other weapon that isn't thunder or/and doesn't need marathon runner but still maintain the farming core skills (lagiana/kirin skills). You can also boost other elemental damage skills since you have some nice slot choices (plus the ones that comes with the weapon, most weapons that need awakening usually come with nice slots.

On a side note, we are wasting one point in diving blessing, since with this set we stack 2 level. But well, that's the price for more versatility.

silver and gold investigations have a chance to give gems even if you break nothing. They actually are the highest drop rate in silver then gold. Capture and carve are only around 3% if you break head but silver is around 10% and gold can go up to 15%

I'm guessing he meant investigation reward and not quest reward, quest reward are at the top, bonus rewards for severing breaking and carving are underneath but you can get literally any piece of material from investigation reward and they gone you higher chance in gold and silver. You should only be doing investigations to farm, expeditions for tracks.

The drop rates are the same between carve and capture according to the guide. The only differences is you get 5 drops from a capture as opposed to 3 from carving.

The gem isnt listed as quest reward since it only drops in the partbreak rewards if you meet the conditions!
It has 0% chance to drop if you do not break any of the required parts

Yeah, all I gotta do is get the Kirin set, which means fighting Kirin multiple times. Fuck Kirin. Hardest goddamn monster by a mile.

Vouchers can also be obtained through the arena quests in the guild hall.
Wish there was a way to bump up the difficulty as a solo player as if you were hunting in a group (without being in a group! It use to be able to be done in the guild hall for older games but not in world...) Or is there?

My palico plundered a odogaron gem once, was really surprised because my carves and investigation rewards didn't pay off but my palico always has my back.

You can also get vouchers from the *Argos* Boat captain. You need to send him to gather "Trade In Materials".There are also Investigations with 3 Gold slots, but they are very rare.

Good note here, on average you dont actually get more rewards from capturing than from carving. You get bonus rewards from part breaking regardless. Obviously if you are running kirin and legi set then capturing will be more profitable in sheer reward numbers but if farming for rare parts and dont want to bother capturing, there is the same chance from carving vs capturing. Loot tables show carving may give you a tiny better chance in carving > capturing but using kirin buff may just cancel out that advantage due to potential extra reward slots.

Hey if you have space for it I feel that partbreaker is a very helpful skill to add to any gem hunting set as most of the time you need to break a part to get the increased chance at them

FYI, If you are hunting elder dragons you want to use Guild Cross set, not Legiana, it gives you a Great/High chance of increased quest rewards, also there are 5 gold reward investigations out there but I only got a 4 gold Lavasioth atm.
