The process of submitting any grant can be a challenging one. The most crucial aspect is, of course, the science. However, an often-overlooked key element of any grant application is the budget. It is very challenging to put together and is essential you get it right. This session will include an overview of basic terminology (such as direct costs, indirect costs, subaward, fringe, etc.), how to select individuals to be listed as co-investigators, define the differences between key personnel, non-key personnel, consultants and contracted services, discuss the difference between supplies, equipment and other materials, and more. Understanding these key concepts and team composition considerations provides important foundational knowledge for developing a grant budget.
