Overclocking The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming w/ OC Guru II

The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming edition uses the 3x WindForce cooler to keep the GM204 processor cool. The custom cooling solution is designed to be quiet and to support high overclocks, the GTX 980 M1 Gaming comes factory overclocked with the core set at 1228MHz Base and 1354MHz for the boost speeds.

The 4GB of GDDR5 memory is placed on a 256-bit bus and is clocked at an effective 7012 MHz. The additional cooling allows the GTX 980 M1 Gaming edition to sit at a 24/7 overclock without worrying about overheating. Gigabyte provides the OC Guru II utility for further tuning your graphics card and monitoring its vital statistics. Along with the improved GPU, we now have support for DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.4, and new methods for lighting and AA. The connectivity options for the M1 Gaming card includes three DisplayPorts, one HDMI, DVI-I, and DVI-D connections, these can be used with Gigabyte Flex Display Technology for multi-display gaming, allowing you to create a 4K surround setup with a mix of monitors.

That OC you got of 215 mhz over the stock core clock is insane!
This card is a BEAST!

May be stupid question but I want to be 100% sure when playing with voltage. So, if I put offset MAX for example 1.1 V it means it does go to 1.1 V and not the "default voltage" + 1.1 V that is around 2.1 V.

Could you please illustrate exactly what you changed? You kind of showed us what you had already done to your card, w/o explaining the process step-by-step.

Please list the default settings, and then what you changed and why?
For instance, your core voltage is at 0: Did you lower this?
Because my Gigabyte G1 GTX980's is at 1.019 with a maximum of 1.225
I am very confused by this video, though I do appreciate it. :)

I have a serious issue with your overclocking settings, because I have to implement them and faced stability issues with such a low voltage to support such a high clock settings of +215mhz...

can this help out with "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error

and any where above 130 mhz doesnt actually give u extra fps, u need to start OC on the mem.

I don't understand this at all. The default oc mode (+38) in oc guru gets me a score of 4121 in the valley benchmark but the more I oc, my score/fps gets cut in half or worse on the 980 ti g1.

NOW... SO IT DEPENDS THE LOAD TO GET 100% THE OC,  AND ON  IDLE GOES LOWER... EVEN IF ITS OVERCLOCK RIGHT?

So I don't get it. I'm new to OCing, just got my 4790k to 4.5 GHz from 4 stable and running at mid 70 C. I have two Windforce GTX 970's in SLI, OC guru shows 7010 MHz memory clock, 1178/1329(boost) MHz clock.

GPU-Z shows max core clock of 1379.5 MHz, and 1761.8 MHz memory clock (during a benchmark), yet this GPU (of the two) hit 80 degrees, the other maxed at 64.

I obviously need more cooling before I OC the graphics cards, which is fine, but why does the memory clock on the OC Guru show 7010 MHz when everything else (including MSI Afterburner) shows 1752.8 MHz.

what I'm confused about is the display overclocking.
the numbers seem totally off at 33 THOUSAND hz, as opposed to the regular 60, so I can't help but wondering if this is truly altering my monitor's refresh rate, or if it only works on some monitors.

Why do i have (when i dont play) my GPU Clock is about 135MHz AND Memory is about 648Mhz?

Mine is not a good overclocker. It crashes even @ 1500mhz/8000vram
And the question is, why even overclock it between 1390(stock boost) to somewhere a stable 1400sh? The gain is neglible if any.

I just used your overclock settings for my G1 windforce 980. Is it safe for longterm use? Did you have any problems after OC this card? Please can you tell me any comment. Hi from locked Prague nowdays:). R.

I do not have the G1. Mine is the Gigabyte GTX 970 GV-N970WF3OC-4GD  BASE: 1114 MHz / BOOST: 1253 MHz Memory 7010 Mhz. I am sure the comments I will get is why OC when it is already OC? Well I have read that it can go to Memory 8000 & Core to 1500Mhz. I have the Gigabyte OC Guru II but have no clue how to use it when it comes to the Voltage/Target I asked on Nvidia Forum but no one seems to answer my question...I would appreciate any help of what specs to use.Thanks.

I copied your OVERCLOCK settings exactly the way you show in this video and as soon as I fun Fire Strike on 3D Mark it crashes every time! So what am I missing? Because I did exactly what you said! If there are any better videos on overclocking the GTX 980 that actually works can someone point me in the right direction please...
