Why are Smashers Bad at Fighting Games?

I go over what exactly is missing from a Smash player's skillset when playing fighting games, and why that skill discrepancy exists.

Smash Bros player here, I tried street fighter 6 and I can't win a single online match. I feel like the only fighting game I'll be good at is project m. Project M players are the least skilled players in the fgc

It really depends on someone’s skills and also what game too, I play smash bros but I also played a lot of traditional fighters so I’m pretty good at both

the opposite is most definitely true, ive seen plenty of smash players become top players in other fgs but never the other way around

The not being able to adjust your position in the air or dash backward effectively is what really gets me when I try traditional fighters. Just can’t wrap my head around that lack of nuance in the movement.
