We are about to enter a very interesting time in the world of Gaming, especially with Sim Racing. We are a little over a month away from the release of the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. This will mark an interesting chapter in the Console Wars, as this may be the closest we've been to having cutting edge PC-grade hardware at the launch of a console.

In this episode of the Sim Racing Paddock Podcast, Will discusses his thoughts on the next generation of gaming, and how the benefits achieved there will trickle down to the next generation of Sim Racing.

PC always will always be the place to race. Not trying to start anything but PC racing is just better than on Console.

The consoles having properly powerful cpus this time around will definitely make the games more intricate when it comes to game mechanisms/physics. For instance we had ssd for about a decade now on the pc side yet no games have been coding for the ssd until they become standard in the consoles.
The same thing will happen for gaming overall, regardless if it is on pc or consoles. Imagine if you crash and not only will the car model crumble upon impact instead of the "undamaged model" being replaced by a damaged model and maybe even fluids and such can leak out on the track and so on. Hurray for powerful cpus in consoles!

I've been comparing Codemashers to EA for about 2 years now lol.
Like yourself I'm really exited for the consoles, not because I intend to buy one though, I'm exited as this will encourage games companies to step up to an new tier in game quality.
Content, size, graphical fidelity etc. All will be an order of magnitude better.
Being a driving game nut, I unfortunately don't see GT7 as a viable reason to fork out money for a console, despite how great it looks. A single game isn't worth 100's of pounds.
I think this is the generation where console/PC crossplay will really take off, imo Sony need to follow suit or be left with an isolated (Albeit MASSIVE) playerbase, If Sony drop the "it can't be done" along with the "I'm the best" attitude gamers will thank them across the globe...

William have you ever taken an IT class before? It seems like you have because you have knowledge about very technical and complicated things in regards to technology.

Doesnt matter when developers only want to make crap games like pcars 3 to play on them.Console sim racing took a huge step backwards with pcars 3. Hell with ACC we currently still have to beg and plead them to support what should be basic features we already have on consoles like UDP and keyboard support. Thats were console sim racing is still at. Still begging for games to support our dam keyboards.

William you obviously know much more than me about this things but I thought that performance and graphics on a video game depended on two things; obviously the console but also the developers of a video game. Let's take a weird example to illustrate this. WRC 7 and Gran Turismo sport. At first sight it seems brutal to even compare these two but wait a minute, they are from the same console, the PS4 so how can we explain that one looks light years away better than the other one? Is it because of the resources of the developers?
