Did you know that Snot Rod is the only Tuner Car not to have a Tokyo counterpart in the Tokyo Mater short. This is because Snot Rod is an American car while Boost, DJ and Wingo are Japanese cars

Controversy aside, I always loved how they paid tribute to Lasseter in that way. It was just such a quirky but cool mannerism they incorporated into McQueen's character. I even like to imitate it from time to time. 😜

To me, the tuner's license plates visibility is dependent on how heir names are said.
•Wingo's is partly obscured since his name is said once and is also a name of an airline and a Gribble quote.
•Boost's name is never said, so the plate is crystal clear.
•How Boost and DJ talk makes it obvious that it's his name while we never see his plate which is obscured by exhaust.

Seems like it was just a fun way to remember.
