Just looking at the top ten results, it's remarkable Ukraine placed 3rd overall beating Spain. Belgium sweeps 1st and Italy takes 2nd if we only look at top 10 finishers.... But looking at the official website, the way they officially calculate Team totals is really wacky!!! From the website, "How are the country rankings put together? The net finish time of the top 25 runners per country (including elite runners) will be added up. This will form the basis for the country ranking per competition and gender. The country with the lowest aggregate time in each race and gender category is declared the winner." So according this, they simply total up the fastest 25 runners per gender from each country, REGARDLESS of ELITE or AMATEUR status?! I mean they must include amateur runners too b/c what country is sending a full squad of 50 elite men & 50 elite women to compete in EACH of the 10k and HM Championships? That would be UNGODLY EXPENSIVE! So are they counting every Tom, Dick & Sally from the "Open" race too to determine team scores? They must right?
