Fun puzzle. If you focus a bit earlier on the 24 pair along row 3, you can disambigiate the rest of row 3 without difficulty. Next you also see there is a 28 pair in row 3 (matching the 24 pair of row 3) Once you have done this, there is really nothing but basic sudoku remaining to finish the puzzle pronto.

This was hard. I got to thinking in terms of even and odd digits -- but I didn't color them. I just used them for eliminating digits from cells. Thinking in terms of even and odds made it easier to find restricted cells. After entering enough bi-value cells, I found a Y-wing that did something -- it removed a 9 and gave me a pointing pair in 9s, but it might still have been superfluous. I couldn't cornermark much, and I couldn't use 5+ houses. The only thing other than centermarking the grid was to search out restricted cells -- at least as far as I could tell. The puzzle finally cracked when I placed a 3 in R3C6.

6:50 The 39-pair: I only found the lower 39 of the two cells. That was one of the three Y-wing cells. If I'd found both 39 cells, the Y-wing would have placed the 3 in the upper cell, and possibly cracked the puzzle earlier. The Y-wing used 389. R6C2 had 89, R6C4 had 38, and R8C4 had 39. R8C2 with 259 had its 9 eliminated, and the pointing pair of 9s pointed at the upper 39 cell.
7:30 Of course, the 39-pair breaks the Y-wing.

6:25 I had to make sure it was correct. I figured out that hidden 39 pair the same way you did.

14:20 Took a bit to realize this was a coloring puzzle, should have been quicker with the bunched even and odd digits.

I'm not a tournament solver. My mind might work quickly, but my body just doesn't have the speed to keep pace. And there are plenty of faster solvers out there than myself.

R3C6 is the tricky part, how do you spot them quickly because there are so many row, column, block operation.

Please explain your pretty much first comment, "if you solve one you can solve the other one right away." Not necessarily.
