After Rain is a beautiful movie that released just after Akira Kurosawa sadly passed away, but it very much has his spirit attached to it

I first saw this movie in early 2000... It immediatly captivated me. This was the early dvd era, and the colors of this movies were so bright, it looked almost like a bob ross painting. The slow pace of the movie is just making the perfect rythm to set the mood of the protagonists : quite, humbles and benevolants. The fast pace of the action just break this rythm to seems more violent, and pacebreaking. The rain is a protagonist at full part, and the colors added to the sound of the rain just create the illusion that we can "smell" the movie. The soaked ground, the forest saturated with water, the river.... Every natural element seems so alive and full of stimuli, it contrast with the castle, always clean and beautifull.... But obviously odorless too, and too sober compared to the inn, full of life, full of joy, and (obviously) full of bad scents, ... Every sense is at work in this beautifull movie... A must seen I can't understand why it has no more fame!

I whole heartedly agree with your sentiments as regards to After the Rain. It's a lovely film. When the samurai said to his wife, " Poor people have no other support than mutual aid. They can't survive if they only think of themselves". I couldn't help but wonder if Akira Kurosawa was familiar with Peter Kropotkin's book Mutual Aid.

I have seen many Akira Kurosawa films and when I saw this one, it reminded me of them as I did not know he was involved in this one also. I have seen this movie a number of times and it gets better each time..

I've heard of this film before, but never sat down to watch it. I definitely want to even more now after watching this video 😊

Fantastic film that does not have to rely on “cut n slash” every five minutes in order to hold your interest. Superb script.

If you are looking for a samurai flick that eschews typical genre conventions, Yoji Yamada's 2002 opus Twilight Samurai is a must watch. Like Ame Agaru, Twilight Samurai is a meditative, reflective piece on the end of the samurai era. Yoji Yamada directed three jidaigeki films between 2002 and 2005, and they are all worth a look. But, man, Twilight Samurai is a work of art. Also, Hiroyuki Sanada stars. I mean, come on.

Very nice commentary. I found a low quality version on YouTube and was pleasantly surprised at just how beautiful this movie was. Like you, I found myself lost in the movie, despite it's slow pace it entices the viewer to stay with it. Very very enjoyable. I'd like to purchase it, with (English subtitles) but don't know where to find it.

Watch also "Pleast hire me", Fujita Makoto in a great series based on the same story, or if you can find it anywhere "Samurai from nowhere".
